Even though the sign outside says Shelly's & Sonja's it has changed hands. It's now run by a man and a woman, and they are very nice to. Being as I was early for a meeting and was half hour early I thought I'd call in for a hot Chocolate ? and a large Sausage ? bun. It's cash only now in there. It was a bitterly cold day and the bun was delicious ? and the hot drink most pleasing. I will definitely be back and the prices are fair.£ £7 is a good deal. The bun was huge.

Shelly's & Sonjas is a traditional cafe on Freeman street in Grimsby and is located opposite the market. It's quite small with a basic table and chair layout and some seating outside, it's nicely decorated with a modern look, it's warm, clean and reasonably well lit, the staff are very friendly and table service is provided. The menu is quite traditional and includes a good selection of main meals, breakfast items, salads and sandwiches, it's dine in or takeaway here no delivery service. It has it's own restrooms which are located on the first floor via a novel spiral staircase. The wheelchair access is reasonable and and the tables could accommodate a wheelchair but space is limited due it's small size. It's cash only here, and they have a4 ???? food hygiene rating.Food review January 2022.This was my first visit here today, I have been tempted to use it before but it's always been busy.I opted for braising steak as a meal and a pot of tea.My meal arrived after a short while and was substantial in size and piping hot, the steak was deliciously tender and tasty and there was plenty of it accompanied by good sized portions of mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and carrots plus a Yorkshire pudding,I found the sprouts and cabbage a little on the soft side but still had some flavour.I paid £6.30 for my meal and tea, so given the portion sizes was good value for money. ?Update March 2023Popped in for lunch here today after a recent short period of closure, there has been a few changes to the menu and inevitable increase in prices since my last visit.I had a steak pie lunch with vegetables and a mug of tea, the pie was very tasty with plenty of cubes of tender steak and gravy, a good selection of fresh vegetables in good sized portions ?I paid £7.50 for my meal and tea, good value for money considering the quality of the food and portions provided. ?Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are availableKid-friendliness: Child sized meals are availableParking: A car park is available in an adjacent streetWheelchair accessibility: The wheelchair access is reasonable but space is at a premium and the restroom is on the first floor, however there are excellent facilities available on Freeman street market which is opposite the cafe.

Great food and great ladies. The portion sizes are quite substantial and don't cost a great deal. It can sometimes feel a little claustrophobic at times when it's busy due to the small size and the spiral staircase dominating much of the limited seating area, but it doesn't bother me as it's a lovely little café in all.

I have eaten here many times. I have always found the food to be good, hot and priced reasonably. You are always served with a warm smile. The menu is extensive, and if it's healthy eating you are looking for, there are several items to choose from. I also like that the food is cooked traditionally, with fresh ingredients and like Mother and Grandmother use to. Don't take my word for it, try it for yourself.
