Speke Hall was interesting with beautiful buildings and grounds. The NT staff were very helpful and informative. However as long time members of the National Trust, we have of course visited many properties and their cafes. We have always enjoyed their coffee and cakes, but over the last year or two we have noticed the cake portions are continuously shrinking. Update Oct 2023 - arrived after 2 so missed most of the hot food options, but managed to get a beef Croque that was nice.Always good to get a walk along the bund and see the Welsh mountains calling me.Friendly staff, lovely food, and great that they serve traditional local dishes too (scouse, wet nelly)

Much credit to the frazzled but friendly cafe staff, we went on a busy, wet afternoon and the acoustics in the building lend themselves to a lot of echoing. Add in crying children and it wasn't a peaceful spot I'm afraid! But, I did nab the last scone, so all was not lost.
