We recently visited The Oak for Mother’s Day, and unfortunately, it was not a great experience. Despite our anticipation, the evening lacked cohesion. We encountered six different waiters throughout our meal, which created a sense of disorganization. It took a reminder to place our order after our drinks were delivered, and while starters arrived promptly, there was a significant wait of 35 minutes for our main course, at this point we had been seated for 90mins. This, coupled with restless children, prompted us to request their desserts alongside our mains. Moreover, there was a disappointing lack of attention to detail, as both my mother-in-law and I discovered string from the meat in our meals. When we raised this concern, the response from the waiter lacked empathy or apology, “aside from the string is everything else ok” was the exact response! The quality of the meal itself was average at best, with a sense that it may have been pre-made or brought in from elsewhere. Despite our disappointment, the manager did discount two of our main meals, which was appreciated.Overall, it was a far cry from previous positive experiences at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. We left feeling let down and unlikely to return for future occasions.

We booked for the mother's day evening menuI was very disappointed when I learned there wasn't any vegetarian options to choose from, only one vegan optionI asked the server for all the toppings on the regular roast but instead of the meat could I have the vegan options, (which was a nut roast). The service was fast and the food came quicklyHowever it was evident that the food had been kept warm for a long while, the potatoes were hard and the carrots and parsnips were mushy/soft.The meals (including the regular roasts) were placed on a layer of pink mushy jam/puree, which wasn't included on the menu.We later found out it was blended beetroot, it covered everything on the plate! We then realized that the only vegetables we had were carrots and parsnips and a small amount of red cabbage. We asked the server if there would be any green vegetables, and the lady brought over a bowl of long stem broccoli and said it was forgotten on our mealsI then asked where the stuffing was, as this wasn't on the platesThe lady told us that this was only included on the turkey roast, however after looking back the menu states that all roasts come with stuffing. I wasn't impressed as this is a high status restaurantOne person at our table found a long hair in their foodVegetarian options: No vegetarian options, only one vegan option

Breakfast…Dirty chairs, dirty windows, dirty tea pots, dirty cutlery and lipstick on the tea cups. A real disappointment. On the upside staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was tasty and well presented.

We decided to have our girly get together this year at The Oaklands after seeing their festive menu. (6 of us). The wording on the menu stated pre orders were only required for a booking of 8 or more, however we were asked for this quite far in advance. I was first to arrive and wasn’t greeted by any staff upon arrival to the dining area and stood waiting to be seated for quite sometime whilst the bar was busy. Upon being shown to the table it was never explained that all drinks had to be purchased at the bar. Whilst waiting for friends the rest of the dining area became busy with quite a loud environment. Starters were taken to tables where not all of the party had arrived. Once we had all arrived, 2 of us went to get drinks and starters were brought out (with no prior communication). We had a mixture of the pate, soup and mushrooms. Then the main course came out and it just went downhill from there. 3 of us had turkey and none of which could finish it due to being too dry, there was a lack of veg on the plate and roast potatoes were rock hard. 2 of us ordered sea bass and had steak brought out to us incorrectly and the final main was pork. At this point one of us raised that we weren’t happy with the meal. Desert then came out which was mostly fine apart from the cheese board which was very poor quality and no extra cutlery was provided to go with it. Overall the experience was very poor for paying almost £30 a head, there was no real ‘service’, all felt very rushed and not personalised. Would not recommend..

Would have been quieter on Heathrow Airport runway. Jammed pin like sardines, had starters on one table and then moved to a different table for mains. Told food would be with us in 2 mins then get apology after 10 mins with offer of free wine to compensate.Food was nice although the roast potatoes were under cooked, hard in the middle and not in the slightest bit golden on the outside. The brownie desert was dry and appeared stale.Very disappointed.

Busy place. Food was surprisingly good given the people dining on a Sunday lunchtime. Enjoyed my time there.
