We'd only come up to Ripon area to walk around Simon' Seat and attend Park Run at Fountains Abbey, but we liked Ripon soo much we stayed an extra night and got a room at the Blue Bell. The room itself was really nice with a soft bed and good bathroom but as we are both around 6 feet tall, it perhaps should have been called the Duck Suite. Lovely pub! Went for Sunday lunch today and it was brilliant, good portions with plenty of meat and great roasties.Staff were friendly and attentive, very dog friendly.Location wise it's a mile from borough bridge and part of a circular walk with some good views. Main caution would be the car park got full pretty quick by about half 12/1 so you may want to get in early

We have lived locally for nearly 10years and have never tried this pub/restaurant as there is so much choice around. We finally went for lunch and had the roast dinner and a dessert. The food was delicious and the friendly staff made for a very pleasant experience. Would definitely return.
