Medium (175) glass sauvignon £8.50. Shocking. No wonder pubs going out of business.Yes, we did check they had charged the 'correct' amount

Not long left the Eskdale after having the best fish and chips I have had in a long time, Served by a lovely young lady. Very attentive and a credit to the establishment. Thank you for making my short visit very pleasant indeed.Food & drinks: as above excellent.

Wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff. The live music was the cherry on the cake!

Came for dinner on Friday night. Food and service was absolutely great!Only 1 vegetarian option available on the main courses, which was delicious but a little small, so would like to see another few options or specials. Just a bit of feedback.

Had a really fantastic meal, although I am plant based diet, the menu was adapted to accommodate me, at no time did I feel I was a problem. The blackcurrant sorbet probably had more blackcurrants than Ribena. Great food, great service and really welcoming. Would recommend!

We ate at The Eskdale today. A fantastic meal in a lovely setting (both in terms of the countryside and the interior) that we'd thoroughly recommend. Service was warm without being overbearing, good range of drinks, lovely table next to a roaring burner. It was my mum's birthday and they'd set out a banner. To start I had the cheese and truffle soufflé, which already in January might be the best thing I eat in 2024. Absolutely exceptional. Both my parents had French Onion soup, generous with serious depth. And the cheese toast served on the side, which my dad thought was a great idea and kept it getting too stringy. When it came to mains there was a seriously large fish and chips, with fluffy chips that had superb crunch. Gnocci with spinach and jerusalem artichokes that looked, smelt and tasted delicious. Then the let down of the meal sadly. A spiced lamb shank with coconut curry dauphinoise, lamb samosas, dukka and Rendang sauce that needs a re-think. It lacked the slow cooking that a lamb shank really needs and consequently the fat hadn't broken down, leading to a rubbery texture that was actually quite unpleasant. The concept was great but a rack or rump would have made more sense I think. The dauphinoise were crispy but you could hardly taste the coconut which needed an equivalent sauce that makes a dauphinoise. The rendang sauce and spiced coating on the shank were both tasty but needed an added salty dimension to it and also something sour to cut through a plate that was actually surprisingly similar throughout, maybe a lime dip or pickle of some description. The lime that was lacking in the main was certainly present in the lime bavarois, white chocolate, chocolate sponge and chocolate that was an excellent, refreshing end to the meal and went a good way to making up for the disappointing shank. The whole meal felt very reasonable in terms of price for somewhere listed in the Michelin guide. The only comment about service would be that nobody asked if everything was ok when clearing the main, considering that a lot of the shank had been left. We won't be discouraged though and will certainly be returning for a second meal, this time for bouillabaisse as main, which looked sensational on the next table.

Delicious Sunday roast in a fantastic location, handy for the station and the rest of the North York Moors national park.

Fantastic gastro pub serving mouth watering food, really friendly staff and a lovely beer and wine selection. We booked at quite short notice for my birthday, but thankfully being midweek in January were welcomed with a gorgeous cosy table by the fire and had a wonderful meal for two. We ordered chicken livers, and French onion soup to start, then both ended up choosing the lamb shank for mains and shared a dessert…as we were absolutely stuffed but couldn’t turn down the amazing sounding Irish cream slice on the menu! The welcome we got and waiting staff were just lovely, beers were all perfectly poured and delicious, and the price was so reasonable for the fantastic quality of food and service. Would highly recommend if visiting the North Yorkshire coast & moors! We will be back!Food & drinks: Couldn’t fault our meal and drinks, thanks again

Cosy pub with a nice fireplace. The cask ales we had seemed to be off. Very kind of the lady to replace them but the ones we received as replacements also off. Member of CAMRA and drink ale regularly. It was very acidic with off flavours.

Beers were off. We complained about it and we got new beers that were off as well. Seems they do not care about the costumers. Not recommend it

An absolutely amazing Sunday roast today, would highly recommend the venison, cooked to perfection along with the very well seasoned sides. We got all the desserts to try each 1 and it was a tough call but the lemon curd tart just scraped top spot. Service also was great even passing on some homemade lemon curd to take home from the chefs ?

Christmas Eve disappointment. Overpriced substandard food pretending at fine dining. Service overfamiliar and staff thought they were good but underdelivered. Crab starter was 3 tasteless canapés on crostinis that couldn’t be cut for £12pp. Duck, over seasoned and dry, was described as beetroot with celeriac. Dessert was a cowpat cheesecake lacking refinement. We laughed but wish we’d saved £150, gone for fish and chips or booked the Abbey Inn for fab food and service at the same price.

We visited for a pre New Year lunch and loved every dish selected. The chefs know what they are doing and the food is superb. we had one veggie, one pescatarian and two meat eaters and the menu accommodated us all. Good wine list too. The excellent food was complimented by amazing service. The staff are delightful.

Best fish finger sandwich I’ve ever had and don’t be fooled by the description….it’s not sandwich as you know it! Oh and the chips were magnificent too :)
