Lovely cosy cafe in the beautiful village of Bishopthorpe near the wonderful city of York. Close to York racecourse with great public transport links and parking on street in the village. Drinks come with a little shortbread heart or a piece of blondie. Which along with the cakes are yummy, the other food is very good too. Nice seating inside and out with excellent friendly service Would definitely recommend a visit.

Very nice little coffee shop, just had tea and toasted teacakes but the sandwiches and hot foods all looked good. Nice place to go after a visit to the local library, calm yourself down after a bit of excitement. Told my work colleague about it and he's chomping at the bit to check it out. Two thumbs up from me.

Really good coffee! Honestly, it’s that good ?? Cake was ace too. Lovely outdoor area and parking for bikes. Great detour if you’re cycling in the planet trail.

We have been to all the cafes in Bishopthorpe recently but not this one until today - what a great find ! Eat indoor in a beautiful cafe or outdoor in quiet courtyard setting . Lovely menu and cakes . Extensive drinks menu . Friendly staff and (very important!) it has a toilet. It is also dog friendly . Will definitely be back !

5 out of 5 doesn't do But First justice. Absolutely wonderful staff serving excellent food and drink. Seating indoors and outside when the weather's suitable. Lots of home made goodies and a varied menu for breakfast and lunch. Where would we go without But First?

Very welcoming and friendly staff, really delicious cakes. Good choice of food and drinks. In a tranquil setting not far from the center of York, pleasant and historic stroll along the River Ouse from the establishment.

Found this lovely Cafe as we didn't get breakfast at our Inn! Smashing bacon baps and great latte. Went back later for another Latte, and a cake, well, a huge Choc Blondie, and Terry's Orange Choc cookie. Lovely staff, super place, seemed to be liked by cyclists. Highly recommend!Vegetarian options: Not being vegetarian but there were options, tuna cheese and possibly other offersKid-friendliness: Lots of children aboutWheelchair accessibility: Easily accessible from the main path, and didn't seem to be a problem gaining indoor entryDietary restrictions: Poster informing clientele if any allergies or special dietary needs, staff on hand to advise

After getting absolutely soaked through whilst packing up our tent in the pouring rain on a nearby campsite, we stumbled across this absolute gem of a cafe. We were met with friendly smiling faces and, being a celiac, with a genuine desire to cater for my dietary requirements. We both had the smashed avocado which was absolutely beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We may be from far away, but we will be back! Please drop by and support this wonderful business!
