Went to the Wensleydale factory and brought some cheese today loved tasting it all and we enjoy the shop so then thought we would have a drink in the 1897 Coffee Shop in the factory but found out dogs were not welcome in so we sat outside under a small umbrella cold and wet know I always thought Yorkshire was dog friendly place but this place had 2 notices tell us dogs were not welcome in it coffee shop it was a shame as the drinks and scones were very good I think this place needs to look at we’re it is and the changeable weather it has to make a place inside or a shelter for people with dogs I see 2 couples with dogs just leave due to the reason I’m telling you about if rain just walk on to the town dogs welcome everywhere.

This cafe is housed in an amazing building with picture windows offering great views of Wensleydale. The outside seating area is really well done too. Only 4 stars though as the food selection is relatively limited and the queue to order took quite a long time considering the cafe was not really busyVegetarian options: A good choice of cheese based dishes

Good selection of cheesy foodstuffs on the menu. 1⭐ off food for the rock hard butter as it couldn't be spread. Chutneys were a delicious accompaniment too.Vegetarian options: Good selection of (V) food on offer.Parking: Small free car park. Had to pay for the other one available 250 meters away.

Next to the visitor center in the cheese dairy there is also a cafe and restaurant. A problem with the order and what arrived. We asked for Coke Zero and Diet Coke arrived. We asked for Yorkie cheese for 10 pounds and came with cheese bread and butter for 3 pounds. It should be noted that the cappuccino was in a large cup and tasted better than expected in England.

Where has the cheese platter gone? It is attached to a creamery after all! And the bread now used is indescribably bad.Overall, it no longer delights.

We were unaware that the main restaurant was closed (our fault we didn't check), but happy to try the 1897 Cafe. We went on a weekday in September - hardly anywhere to sit and had to wait a while before seated. Table was sticky and the chairs were covered in food spillages and food but our order got taken swiftly. Considering there were at least 6 waiting staff, it took 15 minutes to get our drinks to us and about 25 minutes just to get us some soup (which was missing the Wensleydale cheese offered on the menu). The food was light bites but pretty tasty overall, however wouldn't eat there again as it was noisy, cramped, not great service and dirty tables and chairs. While we were perusing the gift shop, we did hear a number of people saying that they were not waiting in the queue to eat, didn't look very nice overall and that they would go somewhere else to eat.
