Was lucky enough to stop for a tea and cake at this lovely coffee shop. It was late on a Sunday afternoon so was not expecting much. But what a lovely surprise the tea room was immaculate, we chose scones, which were absolutely delicious, served slightly warm (as they should be) and very tasty. Nothing was too much for the two gentlemen serving and the presentation was fit for royalty. Would definitely recommend and will be going back on our next visit to Hawes.

Wensleydale Pantry

1 Market Pl, Hawes

Firstly a bit of local knowledge I gleaned. It is owned by a local farming family and much of the meat comes from their own farm and many of the customers are farmers. Think a 'reet fill! The Pantry is above the SPAR shop also owned by the same family. It is best described as a brightly lit function suite that serves home fare in large portions. There is a bar and a canteen style servery though my food was brought to the table. It is clean but lacks any real character or ambiance. The food is honest and homely with good quality meat buried under a mountain of veg and gravy. The staff are efficient though not what you would call effusive and even less so with locals. The atmosphere is a bit stark but the bright lighting and function room furniture don't help and some of the decorations are domestic and look out of place. The food is not cheap but the quality of the meat is first rate and you get a good fill for your money.Worth going on market day [Tuesday) to get a sample of local Dales culture. If you are a visitor to Hawes I would recommend you go just to see real people in a real setting and now it is all genuine. No faux hipster bollock here!If you are local I suspect you have already been.

Had a relaxed afternoon tea in the cafe. Nice to sit by the road and watch the world go by. I hadn't realised how close it was to Hawes & folk had walked over from there. It's quite pretty - A film crew turned up nearby as we left.

As expected, a friendly welcome with a quick chat until more customers arrived...the large cups of tea and coffee welcome after the cold outside, and delicious, freshly made bacon and egg rolls, all at a good price...well worth the visit.

Was really pleased we chose the baytree kitchens. My husband had the seafood chowder I had the ploughman's both off the specials menu. My husbands chowder was full of seafood and fish with fresh bread it was only £10. He didn't want it to end. My ploughman's was really good quality ham and cheese with fresh bread that was only £9. The drinks are really reasonable as well If we lived nearer we would be regulars here All the food tha was coming out you could tell it was freshly prepared.

Had the pleasure of dining at the Tine restaurant as we were staying in Hawes for the weekend. The staff were so pleasant and welcoming. The decor was very tasteful and classical and loved the baby grand in the middle of the restaurant. We opted for the 3 courses for £59 and were not disappointed. The wait for food was not long at all and was piping hot. Nice little touches with different glassware for water decanters, simple but very much a conversation starter. We were made to feel we had all the time in the world and not made to feel rushed at all. Such a pleasant experience and a little gem of a place hidden in the hillside and I’ll definitely be back for a stay over. Keep doing what you are doing…
