“Decided to pick somewhere random on maps and go eat. We got there when it opened at 3pm and sat in the outdoor area enjoying drinks and the sun.
Food service started at 5pm so we moved indoors around 20 minutes in advance and quickly realised just how popular the place is!
We ordered the Salami and Hot Honey pizza and Steak and Ale Pie, the latter was served with a choice of garden or mushy peas, the best chips I’ve had since I left home 37 years ago and gravy.
We paid £11 pizza/£14 pie and chips, the quality of the food and the portions were spot on, this coupled with excellent service definitely guarantees another visit if we’re in the area again!!”
“Perfectly decent place to spend a night while walking the Cleveland Way. Room ticked all the boxes. The young staff at dinner were very friendly and efficient with a particular shout out to Nick (with the beard, if there are two Nicks). And the food was delicious. The more mature gentleman who served at breakfast (the owner?) was, as others have stated, “a character” and on the blunt side of very Yorkshire, but warmed up when we chatted. But who is at their peak at 8am? Breakfast itself was very good and the coffee was excellent. We had a talk about the difficulties of running a hospitality business in 2025 and you realise how many difficulties there are. Can’t see myself needing to stay here again but I’d recommend it to anyone walking around here.”

“We came across this nice pub for a Sunday roast on our drive back from holiday. Sunday roast was delicious—beef and Yorkshire pudding were so well cooked, sticky toffee pudding was amazing and made in house. Staff were really friendly. Massive portions for good prices. Would definitely return if we were in the area. If you want well-made, local and non-pretentious food, is for you!”

“My brother and I stayed here for a few days on a motorcycle tour around North Yorkshire. This is a lovely pub that retains the more traditional feel. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The bar area was clean and cozy with good beer.
Rooms are clean and really comfortable with a good modern bath or shower room.
Food is really good, although for the extra supplement there could be a little more cheese on the cheese board.
Breakfast was included in the stay and was excellent, good produce.
I would definitely stay here again.”
