Excellent food, great selection, and great staff. Tried the taste menu and was not disappointed. You get to choose 2 half portions (large half portions, too) and rice from the taster menu for £17.00. Will be returning.

This is a little off the beaten track so to speak, in a small village, so it is about a 15 minute drive from where we live, but it is well worth the drive. The food has always been great, not a cheap takeaway but a quality chinese. The staff are friendly and the takeaway is always ready when we turn up to collect it. We always phone our order in, so we don't have to wait. Highly recommended.

Was looking forward to this meal as seen good reviews and heard from friends was good but we had poor experience. Was seated pretty quickly and drinks order taken swiftly. I asked what seafood was in the mixed seafood dish - I asked if squid, king scallops, and king prawns. I was informed yes it was that but with other bits! Bits! When the dish arrived the other bit was a green lipped mussel - the scallops were not king scallops. I informed the staff that the other ' bit' was a mussel and they replied saying oh yes we remember now after seeing it. My husband ordered schezwan chicken - waitress wrote down spicy chicken. What came out did not resemble schezwan chicken - it was chicken in a bright red gloopy sauce. No one came round to ask us how the meal was so we couldn't advise at that stage. When we got up to leave the table to pay the next table to us had ordered schezwan chicken which looked totally different to our dish. We went to pay and my husband poitely said the food was ok but the dish was not schezwan chicken. Jacqui got very defensive and said well it was schezwan chicken cos I brought it to your table. I advised that next table had just got their dish whic looked different to ours. Then it came - the reply in a raised voice was EH!. Question to management - do you think this manner and tone is acceptable to customers? There were also younger staff in ear shot to this reply . This does not give a good impression to younger staff that that this was an acceptable way to talk. I suggest Jacqui is enrolled on a customer service course asap! Expensive for average food and Jacqui's appaling attitude.Won't be returning. EH!

We last came here 10 years ago when it was a quintessential English country pub with oak panelling and a chalk board with daily specials. The current owners bought it five years ago, survived Covid, and have transformed it into a bright and breezy bar and a large restaurant serving Cantonese food. There are also seven hotel rooms. Faced with a lengthy menu for dinner we opted for the two sharing platters which were effectively Chinese tapas: very tasty and filling. The local Pennine Bitter went down very well. Our bedroom, a family room, was huge and well equipped. It was also soundproof. Breakfast was a simple fruit juice, full English and toast: nothing else was offered. Service was brisk and friendly. Overall it was a most enjoyable experience. We chose it this time as the price was reasonable and we were curious about its transformation from English pub to Chinese restaurant. Next time we are looking for an overnight stop in the area we will return.

Very friendly service and a nice meal for a family of 4. Perhaps the restaurant could do with refreshing as it seemed dark and lacking atmosphere. We didn't stay in the B and B so not sure what it's like, there were several B and B guests in the restaurant though.

Have stayed here a few times over the last few weeks. Accommodation is good with a good breakfast. We have eaten in the restaurant on each of our stays and the food has been excellent every time. Staff are very friendly and helpful, particularly Alice. Will certainly be returning. Pickhill is fortunate to have such a great pub and restaurant.
