“Our family of four visited here after a recommendation and wasn’t disappointed. The staff were friendly and welcoming but not in your space. We came for fish and chips but the menu was varied and offered something for everyone including vegetarian. We had a large haddock, small cod and two children’s menus with curry sauce which was a little fruity for my personal taste but still nice.The dinning room and bathroom was spotless with view of the harbour from 1st floor.It is best to book as it was almost full by 1pm, would I go again yes.”

“You can't come to Whitby and not have a slap up fish and chip supper can you! Granted it's not as cheap as it once was, and sitting in as opposed to take away adds further to the price. I must say this was excellent though, only a few other people inside so there was only a minimal wait for the food and drinks. Service was friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. Meal was excellent, but then if it wasn't I don't think any restaurant doing fish and chips is Whitby would survive ?Top end of price, but I would say worth it as the food was pretty much perfect.”

“Found this place by accident and was amazed both by the quality and presentation of the food on offer. The hostess really made the evening, with her friendliness, chat, and warmth. The menu is varied and is cooked fresh to order and is delicious.If you are only visiting whitby for one night and don't fancy fish and chips, then you won't be disappointed making this the only place you ate.I will be returning soon (tomorrow evening) for more of the same.”

“Our favourite stay across the UK. Beautiful rooms, retaining the original 1600s features, but with glorious beds and showers. We ate at the restaurant last night, and it was one of the best meals I have ever had (and I’m 51!) - the lamb was out of this world.Rooms: Gorgeous- really comfortable, but retaining all their period featuresNearby activities: Close to everything Whitby has to offer.Walkability: Easy to get to everything. Parking is difficult - but we ended up parking at the long stay which is about a 10 minute walkFood & drinks: Stunning”

“We had an excellent lunch at the Fish Cottage on a beautifully hot and sunny day. Fish tacos with a chili tartare sauce and some proper chips. The couple we shared a table with said their lobster was excellent.Technically, it was a takeaway, but we sat at the rustic outside tables (which are dog friendly). So let's not be too picky about the service. The staff did a very efficient job in hot and sticky conditions at a really busy time: taking the orders and notifying customers when to collect them (you get an electronic gadget which lets you know). But it would have been nice to see a bit more effort in clearing the empty glasses and other debris left by departed visitors.We managed to park outside in the Cottage's reserved bays, but there's a large pay and display car park a bit further up the lane. Recommended.”

“I have never been in a Papas restaurant before but really enjoyed this lunch meal. Nice staff, pleasant surroundings. Our fish and chips were lovely and quickly delivered to our table. The fish was great and my husband enjoyed the curry sauce. Love the chandeliers. There is a Papas near where I live so will certainly give it a visit.”

“This was the best crab I've ever had! Huge portion, big chunks of crab, full of flavour. Wine was great too. Husband also really enjoyed halibut in gruyère. Would benefit from an extra member of staff but those who served us were great!”

“The staff are absolutely fantastic, we ordered a light bite fish cake by accident, we wanted the main. The lady who sorted this out for us couldn’t have done enough for us, our bar server had great banter with the kids and the glass collector was very friendly. Such a refreshing change to meet staff who want to help and nothing was too much for them. Thanks so much, will be back. ☺️”
