Our absolute favourite place in York to eat.The food is incredible, we've been to alot of different places in York and this is somewhere we visit every time without fail.The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. We have recocomend Fancy Hanks to quite a few of our friends and they have all said the same thing, amazing food and great value for money.Highly recommend the chicken sandwich and the mac and cheese.With a fancy hanks lager, 10/10.Look forward to the next visit. ?

Not for us I'm afraid. We were looking forward to trying Fancy Hanks on our weekend away to York, but unfortunately were disappointed by the food. I had the country fried steak and it came in a super thick batter, like fish from the fish and chip shop. It didn't really have any flavour other than "fried" - I know that sounds silly, but there was no beef flavour at all, just an oily taste. My boyfriend had the shrimp po' boy which came with a grand total of 4 shrimp in a roll filled with cold salad (so the shrimp went cold really fast), which was disappointing for the price. The fries weren't seasoned, so were really bland, and there wasn't any salt or sauce on the table. The service staff were really nice and the man behind the bar when we arrived was very friendly, they were just let down by the food I'm afraid!

After spending years walking around York and trying restaurants, I never knew this was here. We gave it a go on the recommendation of my daughter and glad we did.There was a good range of food on the menu although, not too many dishes. The menu catered well for vegetarians.Service was very good and the food was excellent in quality, flavour and quantity.Had a range of cocktails too.Vegetarian options: A good range of vegetarian options.

Took my son during the school holidays. Enjoyed the food. We had the wings to start, then I had the chicken po boy, my son the chicken tenders.I would go back, but it would be with my son and hubby not sure it's a place for friends.Service was very good.

We had a group booking for a hen do this weekend and due to car parking drama our group arrived in dribs and drabs and we didn’t end up being able to eat until an hour after we were supposed to but the staff were remarkably understanding and accommodating I was so grateful and impressed. The food was delicious and great value. A fabulous restaurant in central York. Thanks again!
Went as a group of 5. First impression was very slow service, however, the place was busy and our server did apologise for the wait. It took around 20 mins to order drinks alone and we must have been there the better part of an hour before we got our food. However when the food came it was fresh and hot and yummy. I had the chicken dinner and the chicken was moist, the biscuit tasted fresh and had a lovely texture. I would have like more gravy as the mash was a little bland without it. Everyone else had burgers which were all cooked well and looked tasty. The cocktails all sound delicious, if not on the pricey side (which is standard everywhere). Overall, a good experience and I'd visit again, though maybe I'd aim for a less busy time!

Really disappointing experience. Probably should have realised it would be as it was completely empty at 7.30pm. Staff were friendly enough but obviously no atmosphere in restaurant, as we were the only customers. The decor and sticky tables didn't help.Food was pretty bad. Waffles were burned, chicken ok. Tacos had very little filling and the beef croquettes smelled so unpleasant we didn't even eat them. Fried pickles were great though, as was the pork.It's such a shame, if they gave some thought to how a restaurant should look and feel and had higher food standards then it would be so much better.Feel the website really misrepresents the restaurant.

Friendly service, gentle vibe with old town tunes playing. Fun decor too. The food was delicious. I had the corn burger. The fries were so so good! Will definitely be back for happy hour cocktails 3pm to 5pm!
