We had a meal there on New Year's Eve. The restaurant is just lovely - very atmospheric medieval style room, very nicely decorated as well.The staff was very friendly, polite and welcoming, were very happy to explain the food options that weren't on the menu. They also brought out some free appetisers - bread with butter and olives. The food itself was delicious, they even brought out complimentary veg. The only bummer is how long did it take for the food to come out. It was an hour between we came in and when our food was brought out (and we had somewhere else to be on New Year's Eve), and it wasn't exactly busy either- only two other tables apart from us. Everything else was just superb!

We had Sunday lunch and as it was December a traditional Christmas dinner was on the menu. We all chose the Turkey. It was perfect that was followed by pudding. This was also tremendous. I highly recommend the General Havelock Inn for Sunday lunch.

My husband and I went here for an evening meal on 16/09/23 and I have to say, the food and service were fabulous! I’m gluten-free (necessity not choice) and Gary the chef did an amazing job of my meal, it was really good and I enjoyed my two courses. The hosting staff were also very helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating, I would definitely go here again if I were in the Hexham area.Dietary restrictions: My husband had the Cumberland sausage which he said was very good; meaty and tasty. I had the beef burger which was prepared gluten-free, I was very happy with everything, it was really delicious and they were very accommodating.I can honestly say I wasn’t ‘glutened’ and this is always a good sign of chefs truly understanding gluten-free needs.

10/10 would recommend!!!!Stopped in for a Sunday roast and they did not disappoint. Would also recommend booking ahead as they are very popular and with good reason.

Had a family celebratory lunch for a 90th birthday. There were 21 of us and we were given the restaurant at the back for our exclusive use. Jo was very attentive and helpful right from the planning stage (we pre-ordered) to the actual day. The team were brilliant and it all made it a very special experience for my father. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to the chef and the kitchen team the food was lovely: a delicious chicken and leek pie, sea bass with mussels and samphire, and a tasty tagliatelle. The starters were also very good. All in all a lovely meal with great service in a great location overlooking the river. Perfect for our family celebration. Thanks again to all involved: kitchen and serving staff.
Amazing roast lunch you can’t beat this dinner! Five stars every time! Friendly staff, warm and welcoming. Dog friendly in bar area. Water front with beautiful views of the river Tyne

It’s the best we’ve ever been to in a lot of years , the food was better than amazing , atmosphere was great and very friendly staff who went out of their way to assist with putting a ramp down for wheelchair and all table service, first class service from arriving to leaving .

On arriving at the General Havelock we were greeted by the very friendly team, they couldn't do enough to help. They helped with wheelchair access by putting the ramp outside. We ordered a Sunday lunch the beef was very tender with loads of delicious Vegetables. Hats off to the chef the quality of food was excellent. I would certainly recommend the General Havelock its a hidden gem.

Great meal and very friendly staff. We all had the steaks and they were amazing Al cooked perfectly for the four of us after a long day on our motorbikes. Staff wee very attentive and knowledgable about the ales on offer. Thanks again. ????????
