“Ah, Otters Fine Foods—a quaint culinary haven nestled in the heart of Oakham. This unassuming establishment, part farm shop and part café, is a sanctuary for those seeking a meal that transcends the ordinary. My recent visit for lunch was nothing short of a delightful experience, leaving me with a satisfied palate and a heart full of contentment.
The salmon and asparagus tart was an ode to the art of restraint. Light and airy, yet full of flavor, it embodied the very essence of fine dining. The pastry, delicate and flaky, cradled the tender salmon and the crisp asparagus in a harmonious embrace. The accompanying salad, a simple yet thoughtful medley, complemented the tart with a refreshing burst of greens. The fries, golden and crisp, provided a pleasant contrast, each bite a reminder that even the simplest of dishes, when done well, can be a revelation.
This, however, was not my first foray into the culinary delights offered by Otters Fine Foods. I have indulged in their brunch offerings on several occasions, often finding myself drawn to the perfectly poached eggs, served with fresh smoked salmon over a toasted English muffin, crowned with a silky hollandaise sauce. Each component was executed with precision, the flavors balanced and the textures harmonious. It is, without a doubt, a dish that brings a smile to one’s face.
The staff at Otters Fine Foods are nothing short of exemplary. Warm, welcoming, and attentive, they create an atmosphere that is both inviting and comfortable. It is this sense of hospitality that makes each visit to Otters feel like a homecoming.
And yet, I find myself with a singular lament. As a farm shop, one would expect Otters to offer a traditional sausage, the kind that speaks of the land, of hearty breakfasts, and of simpler times. Alas, they serve only chorizo, an ingredient that, while is the preference of some, does not fulfill the role of a classic sausage in the traditional English breakfast. It is a small quibble, but one that has, led me to forgo their otherwise appealing breakfast offering.
In conclusion, Otters Fine Foods is a gem in Oakham’s culinary landscape. Whether you seek a light lunch, a leisurely brunch, or simply a warm, inviting atmosphere, this establishment delivers with grace and finesse. One can only hope that in time, they will expand their offerings to include that quintessential English sausage. Until then, Otters remains a lovely place to dine—a place where food is treated with the respect and care it deserves.”

“We were staying in the village and visited a couple of times. It's not open Monday or Tuesday but if you can the beer is good, I have a pint from New Zealand (it traveled well) and I ate Greek. We were a group of 6 and all enjoyed the food with no complaints.”

“I often have a drive over from Leicester to Hungry Birds after discovering this little gem working close by. The breakfast is always perfect. Absolutely delicious. Then a take away wrap for lunch at Rutland Water with a slice of their delicious cake. Hungry Birds is highly recommended”

“The room was very clean and well presented, the tea and coffee facilities were excellent. The food was great as was the service, breakfast was excellent as well.
I was very harsh on dropping 1 star due to the duvet being too thick for me and there was no alternative, so I didn't sleep well. Also the bedside tables in the room I was in are pretty much unusable due to the size of the lamps on them.
I do fully recommend The Black Bull as somewhere to stay and will certainly try to stay there again next time I'm in the area!”

“We had a lovely evening here. Good food, good beer. Nice outside seating area undercover, although we had a seat by the door.”
“This is a restaurant already held in high regard and I was very much looking forward to coming. I was not disappointed.
The food, service and venue exceeded expectations.
Situated in the pleasant town of Oakham there is plenty of parking nearby.
We went for lunch and had their set menu two courses which was very much worth the cost.
Started with potted belly prok with crackling after the bread with marmite butter - the latter was exceptionally good.
Superb start and the main was even better
...
Lamb with a rich gravy, bedded on ratatouille, with a potato gratin. The gratin was simply out of the this world. Infused with rosemary very richly.
I had a zero beer which wad on tap.
There were some excellent wine options also.
This is a restaurant that is recognised with a bib gourmand I believe from Michelin which is highly deserved.
I would highly recommend this very pleasant restaurant with superb food.
Thank you very much.
