My husband and I called in for lunch. All of the staff were very welcoming, friendly and polite. The service was good along with the food. I'd recommend this place.

Stayed here a while ago and I have to say that the room we had was extremely dated, tired and tatty. The bathroom was shocking and super dated. Restaurant was okay, as was breakfast. Tried to charge us for a bar bill on checking out that we'd already paid the evening before!

Fantastic food in the restaurant, we had a lovely lunch with local ingredients that was beautifully cooked and presented. Two of our table are gluten free and the very friendly chef Paul came out to explain the options. The menu has a really good selection of gluten free including their fish pie and sausage and mash, photos attached. We'll definitely be returning for more and to try the gluten free sticky toffee pudding.Food & drinks: Great selection of gluten free options

Didn't stay at this hotel, but ate here on three evenings whilst staying elsewhere. It's a limited menu, but what we had was excellent and at a reasonable price. Friendly staff as well.

A fantastic experience and stay ,excellent food, staff.Rooms: Very comfortable
The Good, The Bad, and the very friendly! The good: this hotel is a traditional delight in the central square in kelso, right in the heart of the beautiful town, boasting views right across the square. The room was spotless and the amenities provided were great. The bad: I only had one night to enjoy this hotel, though I can't wait to return! The Friendly: as a solo traveler, I often find hotels have a different approach, however the staff at the Cross Keys made my stay all the more memorable. We used to have a family caravan in kelso so it was quite emotional to return, and the staff in all areas of the hotel went out their way to make me comfortable and welcomed in this hotel. The receptionist was lovely, the bar and restaurant staff were great and I was amazed by the fact that all staff wished me a good morning en route breakfast.I can't wait to return, it'll only be a few weeks I'm sure.Rooms: The rooms are traditional yet immaculate, and are located all within a short reach of either a lift or stairs.Nearby activities: Loads! The quaint town of Kelso boats all sorts of attractions from shops to Floors Castle.Safety: I was reassured by the safety in this hotel, the room had a lock and also the lift had a 'fob' to operate it.Walkability: The hotel is right in the square of Kelso and is very accessible.Food & drinks: Splendid selection of traditional Scottish fayre.

Can’t rate the rooms as we didn’t stay, however went for a meal, rude reception staff upon entrance, the restaurant/conference room has such awful atmosphere, silent, no music not many people talking.Food was okAbrupt staff that came across quite rude, they perhaps were understaffed.Won’t be going back

Stopped for food. Good food, good price. Can get a little crammed and parking can be tricky on days when there is something on in Kelso.

Stayed here for a night on the Borders Abbey Way. I wasn’t particularly enthused on arrival as I felt it had the feel of an older person’s hotel. However, that myth was soon dispelled. The receptionist was lovely and gave a warm welcome. My bag was being transported and hadn’t yet arrived but she phoned my room as soon as it did. I enjoyed the comfortable lounge area, relaxing with a book ahead of dinner. The food was excellent - I’d eat here again anytime! For dinner I enjoyed the special of pan fried hake which was beautifully done. The ginger and lemon sponge was also delicious. In the morning I had smoked haddock and perfectly poached eggs. Total win with the catering! The room itself was lovely and spacious. I had a huge bed and the room was very clean. Lovely quiet hotel too, a great night’s sleep.

Recently stayed in room 206, a "Classic" room...one of the better rooms. It was a reasonable size room with big bed (two pushed together) that felt like your feet were higher than your head. Small bathroom with a very small shower cubicle....not for the larger person. Location is good, just on the town square, with parking right out side....although it's only free between 4pm and 10am. Staff very nice, good choice of breakfast food, although not great quality.
