For many years I have used a little café in my corner of France as the bench mark for all “plat du jour”. Now I have found my bench mark in Scotland; the Gallery Café Penicuik. But I’d rather you not spread the word because I love this place. OK, there aren’t that many tables, the room echoes a bit, there is a certain feel of an old fashioned “tea room” but Jenni and her team at this “Community Arts Café” make and bake some fantastic things. This is a pleasant place to visit with lovely, friendly staff. Lovely soup & cakes, too. There is a small gallery within the cafe area and a lovely little gift shop upstairs.....It's not always open though, so best to ask about it.
