My husband, son and I spent New Year in the Scottish Borders and booked a meal on 31 December at the Smiddy Bar. We had never been there before and didn't know what it would be like. However, our expectations were exceeded - the dinner was excellent, for both the carnivore and the vegetarians. Absolutely fantastic. The quality of the food is amazing. Best steak and ale pie I've tasted. Service also excellent in this great family run restaurant. I would drive down from Scotland, just for dinner.

Lovely little place with exemplary service. It's such a shame we had it to ourselves. Needs better marketing, maybe such as a sign on the A7? Anyway, it's a very nice Sunday roast.
