Came here for the first time for a weekend away and was really impressed. Great location right across from the cathedral, nice food and drinks available and the staff were lovely. We particularly enjoyed the live jazz music night in the bar. Will definitely be back if we visit Wells again!

Actually, no stars. Went for lunch Saturday. Booked for noon as I had a one o'clock meeting. Ordered food on arrival. After 30 minutes went to ask about progress. No staff anywhere. Finished up after 40 minutes finally finding the kitchen where I asked for the food to be served immediately. At 10 to 1, I went back to the kitchen to cancel. There was someone lying on the floor in the kitchen and a chef, but no serving staff.So no lunch, and other than not paying for food I hadn't got, no recognition of the appalling service and no real apology.. Didn't stay at the hotel but went to the pub downstairs. Great food, drink and the person on the bar was really friendly. Sorry to the chef who seemed very tired hut your food was excellent ?

A special place, with a lot of charm, in front of the cathedral gardens. I enjoyed a delicious sandwich and a glass of cider in the heat of the fireplace. They also allow dogs, a great place to come back to whenever you pass by!

Excellent value. Sure, the rooms aren't 5 star, but was clean, comfortable, and a good shower. Breakfast was excellent, and staff were all helpful and polite. And right across the road from the Cathedral. And if you're interested in beer, they had a great selection of beers ! Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed the night on new years day and the lady behind the bar was fantastic ( think she was called beth ) . They have a fantastic selection of local aies and she was so good on advising what to go for . That evening they were not serving food but she said that if we wanted to get a takeaway we could eat it in the pub and she would supply the plates . It was so refreshing to see someone who actually took pride in her job and went out of her way to engage with us . The rooms were a little bit tired but apart from that if we ever venture into wells again we will make sure we visit this placeFood & drinks: amazing selection of real ales

Bar staff didn't know how to do a Bitter Shandy, poured a Lager Shandy.Not good Service.Booked a Table a couple of weeks in Advance, checking what the Menu would be. Promised an email within 5 mins of telephone conversation, never received.Arrived early, and Table not ready, we were sat in what appeared to be the Bar, very noisy and not a relaxed Dining experience. We were told we couldn't have Christmas Menu as hadn't pre-ordered, but weren't informed of this when Table was booked.

Food & drinks: Huge choice of craft beers on draught plus 4 cask ales & some unusual gins.Craft ales good but a couple of the cask ales were not too fresh as possibly not what people go to this pub for. I'd say stick to the craft ales & you won't go wrong.
