Nice pub food, more seafood dishes than other pubs. Had the scallop starter and fish pie. Both were great, would prefer the scallops without the roes but that’s my personal

We had a most enjoyable evening with excellent quality food (try the Lobster, superb !!) as well as exemplary service and wine. Highly recommended. Gary, Benenden Kent.

Excellent food and service and a nice atmosphere. The Sunday roasts are delicious and the portions are large, so go hungry !

We all had the roast beef, which proved to have been a great decision. The beef itself was simply delicious; med rare (pink), tender and flavoursome. Veg was perfect; just the right quantity and perfectly cooked. The smaller plate option is ideal too.more than happy to recommend the mare.

We’ve lived in the area 20+ years and can’t believe we’ve not visited this little gem before now. Two of us popped in for a quick lunch. Food was delicious, large portions, reasonably priced and extensive menu. Seems a popular venue - Fri lunchtime and we had last remaining table. Small independently run pub offering great service and fab food. In fact better service, range and quality than most nearby ‘gastro pubs’. Prices are better, too. Four staff on duty were all lovely and very helpful. A previous review mentions a rundown interior; it fits a 300 year old pub and it’s great to see a food pub in this part of Surrey that doesn’t have a bland, corporate feel to it. Their website mentions several local celebrities who often visit and I can see why. We’ll be returning soon ?

My wife and myself - together with my brother - had Sunday Lunch earlier today at the Running Mare Public House which is a mile or so away from Cobham High Street. We arrived early for our 1230 hours booking and - due to a late cancellation - were most fortunate to be given a nice indoor, window table. The Manager/Owner made us most welcome and enquiring about the lack of starters were told that this was a reflection of the generous Sunday Lunch servings. Nothing could have been further from the truth when our 3 mixed Roasts (one of these was small portion - although it wasn’t that much smaller!) arrived. There were all delicious as was clear from the the 3 empty plates but - even so - we still found room for a large Eton Mess and a shared Berty Crumble and vanilla ice cream. All in all, one of the best Sunday Lunches I have had in a long time and - as such - I would certainly have no reservations in either paying a return visit or encourage others to do so.

Had the most delicious roast chicken, partner had a trio of meat roast. They were both very tasty, lovely roast potatoes and the added bonus of cauliflower cheese at no extra cost. The best roast dinner around and the gravy was very tasty. Lovely choice of desserts which were equally delicious. Well done and will definately be back!!!

Both the food and service at this location maintain high standards in a very pleasant atmosphere.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but I was just looking at this website and thought out of interest I would check my favourite pub/restaurants reviews, I was amazed to see bad reviews, we quite often treat ourselves to Sunday lunch here, we eat out most Sundays and find this to be the best Sunday lunch you can get in Surrey and always find the service to be excellent.

Staff were friendly from moment we walked in. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing and was very helpful. Will definitely be going back for more.

A first rate proper pub with excellent food and beverages. Service was very friendly and efficient which all adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Unusual for a pub to get roast beef just right!

Whilst The Running Mare menu includes the pub classice of fish & chips/scampi?burgers etc, all at reasonable prices, this pub shows menu creativity and choice. E.g starter scallops and liver/bacon main. Our group of 4 enjoyed an excellent lunch from a full menu choice, with London Pride beer and a bottle of rather over priced Proseco. The food quality was especially excellent and the service was, in these tough times for pubs, very good. We have enjoyed meals at numerous pub/restaurants near Cobham, but this one is the star.
