The Fox at Penllyn
Penllyn, CowbridgeVisiting the area from Devon we visited The Fox 31/7/25. Very friendly and helpful welcome from the bar staff as we hadn’t booked and although busy they fitted us in. The atmosphere was buzzing with lots of locals popping in and out. The starters were a little expensive but enjoyable. We then had beef pie and ham hock and leek pie, both with silky smooth mash, gravy and veg- proper homemade pies not the sort with a flaky pastry lid. Both were delicious. We shall return again when visiting later in the area. Highly recommend.

Orchard Cl, Sigingstone, CowbridgeWe’ve eaten here a couple of times now and there’s a good range of food on the menu from lighter snacks to full meals and the big plus is that they serve food on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes too, when many in the area don’t even open.

The staff are also extremely friendly, I ended up speaking to a lovely South African woman who was very kind and helpful.

The Plough & Harrow
Monknash, CowbridgeVisited last night with the family and our two dogs. What a great friendly, proper local pub. Really friendly staff, who were very welcoming, we pre booked and glad we did, as the bar side where dogs are allowed was very busy and lots of people with dogs in. The food was fantastic, with that home cooked feel to it. I had my eye on the sausage and mash on the menu for a few days and it didn’t disappoint, one of us had the gammon and this was a massive thick piece. No WiFi in the pub, was a nice change as everyone was chatting and not on their phones. Good selection of drinks and the Butty Bach was a lovely pint. Definitely worth a visit if in the area and reasonably priced.

Unit 7C Old Masons Yard, CowbridgeHave visited twice, once solo and once with group of colleagues. Plenty of space and some tables large enough for our group of 7. Lovely fresh orange juice and am told the coffee was excellent, didn't try any of the good offeringsParking: Main town car park is next to the shop. Free for 2 hours with option to pay for longer stays, but beware you do need to get a ticket from the (rather slow) P&D machine even if it's just for the free parking

54 High St, CowbridgeWe’ve been coming to The Penny Farthing for a few years and the food is always delicious. Today my Daughter and I came for a girly afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. We were extremely impressed with the quality and variety of the food. The presentation was fantastic. The variety of sandwiches was wonderful and the miniature cakes were out of this world! We would definitely recommend the afternoon tea and would come back again. We need to give a special mention to Andrew who served us. He was outstanding and a credit to your team. Nothing was too much trouble for him!

Freshly made pizzas have been added to the menu in the evening for eating at the bar, outside or takeaway and these too are excellent. Staff always chatty and friendly ?

70 Eastgate, CowbridgeFrom start to finish, my experience at Shampan was nothing short of exceptional. The food was truly out of this world — I ordered the chicken madras, and it was cooked to absolute perfection. The meat was tender and succulent, the spice level was beautifully balanced (just the right kick without being overpowering), and the portion size was spot-on.
The poppadom tray and accompanying sides are an absolute must — fresh, flavourful, and the perfect way to start the meal. The garlic naan was the ideal companion, perfectly sized and perfect for soaking up every last drop of that incredible sauce.
The service matched the food in excellence — warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional.
All in all, a flawless 10/10 experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

The service was excellent and the waitress very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was calm and comfortable. We were surprised with the price of the meal, it was excellent value. We will definitely return ?

The Barley Mow

The real wood burner creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere and the Sunday roast was absolutely perfect, as good as you’d cook at home. The only quibble was with our booking experience - the phone number didn’t work and our in-person booking got lost. If these issues were a one off then this is a real gem.

Perfect place for dogs too.
The staff work very hard and could perhaps benefit from having one member specifically there to wash up and clear tables.
Caffe Nero are a bit behind the times charging for alternative milk options.Most coffee houses no longer do so,and being penalised for allergies etc seems unfair.

River View Chinese Restaurant
Britannia House, Penny Lane, Cowbridgewent to celebrate my parents 46th wedding anniversary tonight. must say the food was so delicious and the flavours where amazing I liked the fact you could pick what u wanted off the list also. and only £17.99 per person too. we tried so many dishes and the wait in between was not long. must visit this place if you haven't been lovely owners and very polite also. parking is right there and there a lovely little lake view and balcony to eat on too. thanks again will 100% be back for a visit soon.
