Arrived in Polruan late Friday afternoon in need of food and drink. Headed into The Russell to a warm friendly greeting. Kitchen opens at 6 so we had a drink whilst waiting for our fish and chips. Fish was beautiful, flakes of fresh white fish in a crispy batter but let down by the chips :-( which were flaccid and pale, just needed a bit longer in hotter oil which would have complemented the fish perfectly.
Great little pub near the harbour. Relaxed atmosphere and nice, friendly staff. The real ale is top quality and there is also a decent range of wines and whiskies. Didn’t try the food, but noted that they are happy for you to buy food from the cafe next door and eat it in the pub.

Traditional basic and very friendly pub. Limited range of beers, but well kept. Food is basic pub grub but really quite good. It’s the sort of place that once you’re sat down with a pint, you just feel at home. Very warm and friendly mix of locals and visitors. Ideal rest at the end of a long, tough, coast path walk.
