Ok, so we popped in as a group of friends staying in the village to eat out for the evening. Unfortunately they weren't doing food on a Saturday night. Which was a bit surprising.. until we found out that the owners had left and the staff were in fact volunteer locals.Fair enough. And then.. Angela came to our table and made the most generous offer - which I won't repeat so it's not expected by everyone - that was so appreciated by everyone there.Lovely locals going above and beyond - winner.

Under new management, and kitchen team. Unfortunately there are a few teething problems to get sorted. The quality of food wasn't good. Staff were friendly and welcoming and took feedback well. Hopefully they will be able to fix kitchen issues.

We arrived soaking wet and were welcomed very warmly by landlord Andy who took our wet clothes for drying and us to our warm and comfortable room, where our bags had already been taken. He continued to be very available and helpful for all the stay and even donated money towards the cancer charity I was raising money for. All the staff were friendly and accommodating and the whole place had a great feeling and ambience. The food was great pub hearty fare and good value. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I would highly recommend!

My family went here for dinner for one night of our holiday and had a great time at The George Hotel. Lovely, welcoming staff, great food and lots of vegetarian options.

Really enjoyed stay great Atmosphere and very welcoming friendly hosts
Only pub in town, but the experience was still really great!! The guy behind the bar was kind and caring, the curry of the day was delicious, and the beer was refreshing. Plus a fun atmosphere!

Party of 6 walkers doing the Coast to Coast Walk. Really excellent stop off, very highly recommended. Good food, excellent beer and hosts who care about looking after you. Drying facilities really useful.

The publican was very friendly and helpful. The locals were chatty. Meals looked nice. We spoke to people who stayed in a room (was fully booked so no dice for us ?) and they loved the room and breakfast. Reasonable beer prices too ?. The place had a very nice welcoming feel about it.

A quirky characterful pub. Nice pint of Wainwright but sadly a Marston's pub in Cumbria is the only reason I can't rate higher. As much as Marston's have saved many breweries/beers from extinction they have also applied a template to the beer that's sold. However if you're passing or on holiday I can't recommend it more.... Proper old style pub but sadly not dog friendly.
