I was going to say that the Piel Castle is a huge barn of a place, but with the impressive stone walls etc it should perhaps be described as a huge vault or cavern. Whatever descriptive terms we use, there is no doubt that this is an impressive and very attractive pub with beams and exposed rafters aplenty. Stayed in Ulverston for a week beginning of August. Spent time in this pub every day, the staff were extremely nice and welcoming, the pub has some quirky fixtures inside and the interior is excellent, old and charming. Some of the pints are a little on the pricey side but that was mainly the IPA's. I Will return for sure, cheers.

There is one thing the county is sadly losing at a vast rate. Decent PUBS, with real ale, live rock music and great atmosphere. However, this place has them all, together with excellent customer service. The only downside is, and maybe a victim of their own popularity, it can get very crowded. However,,,,, is that really a negative as it all adds to the experience?
