I am not sure I can be objective in this case. I have a long and Chequers history starting from 1999 when I moved to Ticknall and Philip Heath, his piano, and the old crooners gathered on Saturdays to sing.It was magic.It's all a part of the history of the Chequers, and it's still a great pub. Walked there from Melbourne as part of a circle through Staunton Harold Reservoir and Calke Abbey.Now that's a good way to experience the Chequers.

What a wonderful place for me to enjoy my very 1st pint during my very 1st visit to England!! If you're looking for an AUTHENTIC pub in the UK with all the trimmings (good beer, spirits, atmosphere, and most importantly good people!) then this is the place you must see. I was sad to leave to come back to the states because I loved this place so much

Chequers is the real deal -- a very old (17th or 18th century), authentic, friendly pub in a tiny village in Derbyshire where the locals all know each other and notice when strangers (like us Americans) show up. But we were here with a large group for a milestone birthday and the organizer grew up drinking here. The proprietor, Tony, is very friendly and generous.
