Clare's Cafe

192B N Wingfield Rd, Grassmoor, Chesterfield

This café is a little gem. It's usually only for takeaways and snacks, but today they put on an amazing Christmas spread for our craft group. Special diets were catered for, the meals were lovely and the service great. They even went to the shop across the road and came back with some ice cream especially for me. I call that as being above and beyond. The café is nice and clean inside and we could smell all the lovely things they'd been baking for the take away customers. There's no toilet because it's mostly a place for people to just pop in and buy pastries and cakes, there's no level access, but it's only one step to get up, so it's doable for people who use a walking aid. There were several of us with mobility issues, but we all managed to get in and out ok. There's room for maybe 2 cars to park right outside the door and there's on street parking available nearby. We all had a lovely time and will definitely be going here again. I heartily recommend this café.Vegetarian options: They made a gluten free, cheese, onion and potato pie just for me. It was in a single pot and had been baked to perfection, with lots of crunchy cheese around the edges. It tasted fantastic.Dietary restrictions: They catered for gluten free and potato free diets.

Cat Village North

208, 210 N Wingfield Rd, Grassmoor, Chesterfield

We've been to a lot of cafes with cats both in the UK and abroad. Some are flashy, others not so. This not-for-profit enterprise falls into the latter camp - the surroundings are basic but the cats are some of the most beautiful and loving we've ever encountered. They will happily sit on your cat... and climb on your shoulder. I didn't want to leave! It's the only venue I've ever been to where the cats have an outside area so bonus points for that. They are in a separate area to the cafe.We had very good coffee and an excellent margherita pizza made by Adam, the owner. He was very friendly and chatty. So too was Abbie, one of the volunteers, and we ended up sharing photos on our phones of our cats! It's good to see a cat cafe that isn't all about making profit - but cares for cats and people, as this venue is also a place for therapy - and what better therapy than spending time with those gorgeous cats.
