What a fantastic pub! I was staying at Hillfield Village for a week away by myself where I came to the Sportsmans Arms 5 nights out of the 7. Everyone was so welcoming and even though the first night was busy with a large party of guests a table was found for me. Gorgeous, cosy pub with friendly staff and outstanding food...We had the steak and ale pie, and the west country burger; and desserts, we had sticky toffee pudding, banoffee waffles and plum and apple crumble. We all enjoyed our food very much...So glad it's local and I can visit more often.
"They" say people in the South West are friendlier, experience can confirm. We set out on foot on Christmas Day battling the best of British weather (haha) and rural country roads, built for cars not pedestrians to find the Sportsman's Arms in search of Christmas Cheer. We were met with a warm and friendly welcome and after a leisurely 3hour visit, we experienced hospitality at it's finest when the owner very kindly and generously saved us from the return walk and drove us back...read full review
