The Ship Public House is a lively yet relaxed traditional pub with a good atmosphere. It offers a nice menu with a daily blackboard menu, and plenty of seating both inside and out. The pub is located near Chelmsford Railway Station, on the outskirts of the town. The drinks are well-kept, with 4 ales on offer, including Maldon Gold. The food, especially the burgers, is reported to be good. The newly constructed en-suite single rooms are described as extremely comfortable, well-presented, and spotlessly clean, providing all the necessary amenities for a pleasant overnight stay, except for a chair to sit in. The pub does not offer breakfast, but it is conveniently located near the town centre.
