Nice vintage pub to visit for the history. Food prices looked reasonable for lunch but beware that many items aren’t always available nor are you always able to find a bartender during lunch hours. Like all English pubs it gets packed starting at 5 pm.
Went with high hopes. The architecture and layout doesn't disappoint... however, the vibe was one of a tourist destination rather than a real pub, underlined by the response to my question 'what ales have you got?'... answer... 'none, we've run out'. Proper English pubs rarely run out of one ale... they never run out of all. Lovely, olde worlde pub. Not a bad price (it's a Sam Smith) and really lovely clientele - combination of interested tourists and semi-regulars. Staff were really pleasant too and, given how busy it was, everything was calmly and pleasantly ordered and organised.
