We really enjoyed our evening meal here after a day playing on the beach with our ever-energetic Springer spaniel. By the time we arrived, sandy, smiling and thoroughly worn out, we’d definitely worked up an appetite, and possibly burned off enough calories to justify pudding (purely for recovery purposes, of course).

To start, we shared the basilica sausage and mozzarella arancini. They arrived perfectly crisp on the outside, giving way to a wonderfully creamy, cheesy centre with just the right hit of herby and savoury sausage. A comforting and flavour-packed beginning.

For mains, my husband chose the pulled lamb shepherd’s pie, which was rich, tender and deeply satisfying, with beautifully seasoned lamb beneath a golden, fluffy, cheesy mash topping. I opted for the mushroom bourguignon pie with merlot gravy: a hearty, comforting dish full of earthy mushrooms, plenty of seasonal greens and a luscious, wine-infused sauce that felt indulgent.

Dessert was non-negotiable. Hubby enjoyed a classic tarte Tatin with cream: sticky, caramelised apples beneath crisp pastry, the cream melting gently into the warm pud. I chose the lemon meringue pie with ice cream, which was the perfect balance of sharp citrus and sweet, cloud-like meringue, the ice cream adding a lovely cool contrast.

The atmosphere was welcoming, and we particularly appreciated that dogs are made just as welcome as their humans. Our spaniel settled in happily, though judging by the hopeful stare directed at our plates, she felt equally entitled to review the menu herself. Five paw prints from Holly, even if she only sampled the ambience.
As a side note, I have never seen such clean and pretty pub toilets with such thoughtful complementary toiletries should one need.

A truly lovely spot to refuel and unwind, would definitely go back.

Just had a takeaway from here, since it’s been taken over. ( Royal Edana )
And I have to say it’s easily the best Indian food I’ve had on hayling island. Everything tastes so fresh and cooked to order. The onion bhaji and sag aloo were 10/10. Also highly recommend the poppadoms with pickle tray - the mango chutney is out of this world.
I was also very pleased when offered half a pint of beer on collection!
Price is very competitive.
Would 100% recommend!

I think this might be Hayling's best kept secret. The best croissant and cinnamon bun I ever tasted, fresh out of the oven. Excellent coffee as well. And right next to the Billy trail.

WoW ! what lovely food, we have used this restaurant only twice for take aways and have found the food excellent. I personally love the Chicken Jalfrezi which has a nice little spicey kick to it. Furthermore, the deliveries are very quick, the food has always been hot, so we will be using this establishment every time we fancy a very nice curry.

what a gorgeous venue! yeah, I've driven past a million times, and never been in, I thought it was probably a bit... um.... naff? I mean hayling isn't exactly Southsea when it comes to fancy. had no idea how well put together the place is. I know there's a lot more to a place than the aesthetic, but be honest, we've all walked into places and been like "eurgh is this a bar or a greasy spoon?" and this place is actually First Date Fancy. warm, welcoming, just the right lighting levels so you can see but you feel at home, spotlessly clean, and absolutely no sticky stinky boozer vibes. Next time I have someone to impress, I'm coming to groves.

Great food crap service
Cramped space
Despite making a reservation our table wasn't ready when we arrived
My friend had gravy spilled over his arm and the waiter nearly knocked a glass of red wine over.
When two of the dishes arrived we had to send them back to the kitchen as the food was cold
They had the cheek to add 12.50% to the bill for service (????)
I got them to remove it
When I got home I found that the chair that I had been sitting on had had gravy spilt over it so my trousers were stained. I am now faces with a dry cleaning bill on top of the cost of nearly £180
Might be OK for a takeaway but I will not go back in for a full meal
I notice that many of the reports are over 12 months old
I also note that the overall score is down as 5 stars what a joke I'd give it 3 stars max

Friendly staff, family run cafe. Dog friendly, but most importantly delicious fresh food. We had a BLT baguette and a cheese burger and both were freshly cooked to order and very tasty. Plenty of fillings and sauce in both burger and baguette and lovely quality bacon and burger patty. 5 stars will be coming again. We also had the Ice-cream after, which again was great!

I visited with my mum Friday as a last minute meal, we were the only people eating in at the time as we arrived just as he opened & the owner kindly honoured a taste card offer & was hospitable, attentive & humble.

He shared with use stories about the nature of business after Covid & some upsetting criticisms he had received which people weaponised against him in the form of reviews rather than giving him the opportunity to address & rectify whatever issues they may have had.

I enjoyed my food, he altered my order especially for me & my only drawback was the korma my mum had was a little watery for my liking, however, she loved it, so taste is all totally subjective.

He is the sort of owner that most certainly deserves honest custom as he cares about his customers & wants them to have a positive experience, unlike a lot of other restaurants I've had extensive experiences with.

Bear in mind, Hayling is mostly a sleepy town, he's a credit to the community desiring them to have a positive experience.

I can’t lie, my stay in your restaurant was not an enjoyable one, rude, dismissive staff who were disregarding me the whole night made it a shambles, I was questioned on my ethnicity, the fact that my disabled child needed a high chair and was refused one and made to sit on the floor next to us, he is only 3 years old and has cerebral palsy! There was a staff member who was extremely unresponsive and made me feel unimportant the whole time, refusing to change my order when I ordered a vegan wrap and was served chicken, I will be back to chat to your manager at a later date, as this service was criminal and disturbing and as a 37 year old man with no family except my poor, disadvantaged child.

Great produce as always across this franchise. Morning rush would hv been better (quicker) served with more than 1 person working, given coffee, bacon & sausage sandwiches take time to prepare, serve and take payment. Queue out the door by the time I left, but I wasn't in a rush...& the mince pies & chicken slice were worth it!

Just popped in for a drink. The place is a bit tired looking but the location and views are stunning. The welcome from the barman was wonderful and we immediately felt at home. He was super accommodating and offered to move chairs to allow us a better view at the impressive window. We didn't eat there but the restaurant set up looked beautiful and plenty of others were tucking into delicious looking food.

After walking the whole length of the Hayling Billy Trail we called into The Barley Mow. It was a beautiful sunny, warm day so we decided to sit outside. On entering the pub/restaurant I was greeted by Sam. A very polite, knowledgeable person who advised what was available and served with a smile. A pint of John Smiths for me, a Diet Coke for my wife and a cold bowl of water for my dog. We also opted for two bacon & egg rolls which were cooked to perfection and quickly too. Very tasty! Thank you to all the staff who contributed to our short visit especially Sam who went that extra mile. We will definitely be visiting again.

Came over to see my sister and her partner who are here in an Airbnb and I just had the nicest fish and chips that I can remember. That fish for me was just perfect. Nice and thick, with a light batter, and a lovely lot of chips. We had 4 fish and 2 chips spread across 4 boxes, and I thought I was in heaven. Honestly can't praise that fish enough ??. I'm coming back for more, no question.
