It would have been the standard 3 stars, however; Service and the range of real ales & cider (don't drink it but know it's an important factor for some) give it that xtra Star.Place does need a bit of a spruce up. Pubs • “We were a group of 20 cyclists who came in for a ploughman's lunch, which we had booked in advance, the food was excellent, and plenty of it, and good value for money. The Landlord and Landlady were most welcoming and really made us feel at home and we cannot recommend it highly enough, and would certainly visit again if we are ever in the area.”

“Had a number of full English breakfasts from the Herdsman, through Deliveroo. Food always arrives piping hot, everything cooked perfectly, and more than I can manage on some occasions. Really good food.”

“Fantastic unique pub in superb village surroundings, with super friendly staff that welcomed us like family. We didn't book, but were squeezed in the dog friendly section with our two dogs and it sure was dog friendly with water and treats supplied. Atmosphere and decor was excellent along with a quality drinks menu. Food was excellent, I had the pie and was pleased with taste and amount and my partner had the most perfectly cooked steak. Excellent.”
