“This is one amazing Oldie but Goldie pub filled up with interesting photos on over the walls and antiquity surroundings complete with outdoor seating and a smoking area.
The food of which I had was the best steak & kidney pudding in my life and my misses had a huge pork succulent chop, both served with creamy mash and fresh veg, both were very plentiful and really delicious, hence the empty plates
The service was fantastic including the young girl (well younger then me) was rushed off her feet, made you feel very welcomed and gave you and a busy restaurant 100%.
This place was alight with happiness and that wasn't only due to a brilliant service, great food and good music but people were talking to each other and hardly to none mobile phones, people were polite with no weatherspoon type reckless regulars trying to get a cheap beer if you get my point and my favourite was this cozy corner with a log burner with two sofas that surrounded it to relax with a coffee to finish your meal. The toilets were lovely and clean and didn't smell at all which is just as important as the meal itself, the price was definitely worth it for what I paid which included two puddings and a couple of drinks.
All in all I give this restaurant 10/10, worth the 45 min drive to get there were guaranteed return visit very soon.
Parking: All within a 10 min walk to the restaurant.
Kid-friendliness: There were no children there when we went but I did notice smaller meals designed for small children if they went along with their parents on the menu.”

“We chose The Prince of Wales for our Anniversary lunch. We hadn't booked, but took a chance as it was towards the end of lunch time servings. We were given a friendly welcome and told to choose where we would like to sit. We sat at a lovely table tucked into the corner, over looking the front. There are a few different areas to choose from, all with great character, including the garden. Our waiter was very friendly and swiftly brought our drinks orders over along with the menue. My husband can be a little fussy where food is concerned, however there was a great choice for him, plus some lovely specials.
We shared the Beef Brisket Croquettes with horseradish sauce, followed by the steak and mushroom pie for hubby, and the stuffed chicken for me. Everything was very fresh and cooked to perfection and presented beautufully ? Timings were great, a little time between each courses, we never felt rushed.
Not sure if we wanted desserts, but was soon swayed by the fact that 95% of desserts are made on site. I ordered the Cheesecake, which was mixed berries with a large dollop of delicious ice cream. My husband, who didn't want a dessert, gave in to the Gypsy Tart, again with ice cream. Both desserts were delicious, genorous and again beautifully presented. Sadly my phone died so I didnt get a photograph of them.
The young lady and our waiter were very friendly and happy to chat. They asked if we had enjoyed our meal and hoped that everything was ok. It certainly was, we loved the food, the atmosphere, the friendliness. We would highly recommend this countryside pub and will definitely return.”

Great tidy and spacious beer garden with regular Barbecues. Plenty of parking in the tidy carpark as well.We had a meal in restaurant this evening. Excellent quantity and quality home cooked meals. Love this local. 10 out of 10.”

“Thanks so much to Emma and the staff for the wonderful roast on Sunday which was thoroughly enjoyed by all 7 people in our party. Emma kept the kitchen open late especially for us which we were all very thankful. Would definitely recommend The Mermaid.”
