Posillipo - Canterbury
15-16 Borough, CanterburyPosillipo in Canterbury is an exceptional Italian restaurant that delivers an authentic dining experience. We highly recommend making reservations, as it was completely packed on a Saturday night—mostly filled with what seemed to be locals, which is always a good sign. We didn’t have a reservation, but Mario, the manager, was incredibly accommodating. He assured us if we could wait just five minutes, he’d have a table ready for us for a 90-minute seating, which was beyond our expectations given how busy they were.
Nicholas, our server, provided exceptional service—attentive, professional, and never seemed rushed, despite the bustling atmosphere. The entire staff displayed incredible teamwork, with Mario working alongside his servers, making sure everything ran smoothly. It was impressive to see a manager so engaged.
The food was outstanding, truly reminiscent of the quality we’d expect to find in Italy. The pasta was cooked to perfection, with the Arrabbiata sauce delivering just the right amount of heat and depth of flavor. A must-try is the bruschetta—unbelievably delicious, with fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors that made it one of the best we’ve ever had.
Posillipo is a gem that could easily rival many of the top restaurants in Italy. If we could give it 10 stars, we would! It’s the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy a truly memorable Italian meal in Canterbury. We highly recommend making a reservation to avoid missing out on this incredible experience.

Marlowe's Restaurant
55 St Peter's St, CanterburyI recently enjoyed a delightful pre-theatre dining experience that perfectly set the tone for the evening. This is the second time that I’ve eaten here. The restaurant was conveniently located near the theatre, making it an ideal choice for a relaxed meal before the show. The service was attentive and efficient, ensuring we had plenty of time to enjoy our courses without feeling rushed. The menu offered a variety of light, flavorful options that didn’t leave us feeling too full, but satisfied and ready for the performance. Overall, it was the perfect complement to a night of theatre, blending convenience with quality. Special mention to Mimi who was our waitress on both occasions

Friend and I heard amazing things about this place so we decided to try it out and were unbelievably impressed - we had the gorgonzola gnocchi (best gnocchi of our lives) and the pizza “napoli”, followed by the tiramisu and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was incredible and we cannot wait to come back again to try their other dishes (although we’ll definitely be ordering the gnocchi again too). Service were professional and very lovely and the food came quickly✨

Keynes College
University of Kent, Canterbury• Had a very easy experience checking in, although on the way to my block, other guests asked for help in finding theirs.
• This place employs the traditional cubicle model of student accommodation, which has its roots in the monastic origins of academia. As monks sleep in dorters, so too did the first students. Later generations of students over the course of the middle ages found the need for a quiet place to study, & they furnished this by erecting partitions between their beds, which gradually evolved into walls. This is how the word "cubicle" entered the English language, its Latin root being "cubō", which means "to lie down". The cubicle partitions at Keynes are no less substantial than any other wall in the building, & I had no privacy nor noise concerns during my stay. The cubicles themselves are well-appointed, if spartanly – you get coathangers & a kettle, but if you want a television or bedside lamp, you have to bring your own.
• Wetroom smelt of cucumber for some reason & the shower's outlet (you don't get a proper showerhead here) was clogged with limescale, making it a proper challenge to shower. Easily one of the worst hostelry showers I've ever had the disprivilege to use.
• Breakfast was, on the other hand, among the best I've eaten in any hostelry. Everything is perfectly cooked & seasoned. I got a strange look when I gave them the traditional London compliment of "I can tell you've used fresh oil", but it was meant earnestly. I was unable to have my bread though, unfortunately, because a gull stole it.
• Nota bene that, although they provide a microwave at the end of the dorter, there is nowhere to buy anything to put in it. The Coöp nearby only opens when the university is in session.

87-88 Northgate, CanterburyIf you've not tried this restaurant before then I recommend that you pay it a visit.
It looks a little different to similar restaurants but the main difference is that all diners are given space to enjoy their own company and the meal itself.
The service was attentive, efficient, and relaxing.
The food that we chose was very, very good. It's a good sized menu, plenty of choice, and definitely somewhere that I look forward to visiting again.

The french toast was an excellent pick-me up after a long day of travel the day before and the green eggs and ham I've had on my previous visits is also delicious. Couldn't recommend more!

Cafe du Soleil
5 Pound Ln, CanterburyWe love this place. Have always enjoyed Cafe Des Amis too, but this is just as good, if not better. We had a private event for my dad's 80th a while back and yesterday we went for my wife's birthday. Both times the food and service were outstanding. Definitely one of our favourite places to eat in Canterbury. We'll definitely be back.

Suitable for couples, families with children, and small groups.
Good choice of tapas dishes, which arrive as and when they are cooked.
Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Parking: Situated in the city centre so limited vehicle access. Suggest using one of the numerous car parks around the city and then walk for 5 minutes.

The Anchor Inn
High St, Wingham, CanterburyThis is one amazing Oldie but Goldie pub filled up with interesting photos on over the walls and antiquity surroundings complete with outdoor seating and a smoking area.
The food of which I had was the best steak & kidney pudding in my life and my misses had a huge pork succulent chop, both served with creamy mash and fresh veg, both were very plentiful and really delicious, hence the empty plates
The service was fantastic including the young girl (well younger then me) was rushed off her feet, made you feel very welcomed and gave you and a busy restaurant 100%.
This place was alight with happiness and that wasn't only due to a brilliant service, great food and good music but people were talking to each other and hardly to none mobile phones, people were polite with no weatherspoon type reckless regulars trying to get a cheap beer if you get my point and my favourite was this cozy corner with a log burner with two sofas that surrounded it to relax with a coffee to finish your meal. The toilets were lovely and clean and didn't smell at all which is just as important as the meal itself, the price was definitely worth it for what I paid which included two puddings and a couple of drinks.
All in all I give this restaurant 10/10, worth the 45 min drive to get there were guaranteed return visit very soon.
Parking: All within a 10 min walk to the restaurant.
Kid-friendliness: There were no children there when we went but I did notice smaller meals designed for small children if they went along with their parents on the menu.

Cafe Des Amis
95 St. Dunstans St, Canterburywhat an unreal place!!! Most guides I read suggested checking this place out and so glad I did...Such a lovely atmosphere inside, service was fab and menu is pretty big. Going for the lunchtime deal (2 courses for £21 or 3 for £26), I thought I'd get the standard small/average portion. Couldn't have been more wrong - got served an absolute feast of a meal, one that could've easily fed two if not three people. Insane value for money. Quality was incredible too, everything tasted super fresh, well cooked, flavourful. I didn't manage to finish everything but still gave myself a 10/10 food comma, one I'm not yet recovered from some 4 hours later. LOVED IT :)
