I still rate this pub as one of the, if not the best pub in Retford. Me & my mates all used it in the late sixties & beyond. Now even better at £2.00 a pint..!!!!!. I appeal to the owners, Please do not alter the pub. Other good pubs in Retford had been altered & are now long gone. Old sun pub staff are Brill.
From a building perspective Ye Olde Sun Inn had all the style you would expect of an ancient pub, ie low ceilings, a plethora of old ceiling beams, and even sturdy wooden pillars holding it all up. Coming back to the modern age however, there is no “olde world” pretence, and you have wall to wall sports screens and a background of rock music on constant play. This was a fantastic pub to go drinking at, with a vintage style as the name would indicate! The walls give off those vibes, the counter is well-presented and staff were friendly. I had a pint of Strongbow Dark Fruit, sitting comfortably in the outdoor area which has a bonus of shelter!
