The Edge Eatery Ltd.
62a High St, WitneyQuite simply the best breakfast and brunch in Oxfordshire! Edge has been a favourite for years now and for good reason, their food tastes amazing! We’ve visited countless cafes in Oxfordshire and too many are style over substance but not the Edge where flavour is King as it should be.
My personal favs include the French Toast, Hot Honey Chicken Bagel, Salt Beef Bagel/Sando and the new Chicken Sando (which I voted to be added to the menu - you’re welcome).

Ye Olde Cross Keys
1 Market Square, WitneyWe had the absolute pleasure of visiting Ye Old Cross Keys, and it’s safe to say this gem of a pub exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, authentic, and quintessentially English, the kind of place that makes you instantly feel at home.
The star of the evening, without a doubt, was Bex, the bartender. She is nothing short of brilliant: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell she takes pride in making sure every guest feels looked after, and her energy brings so much life to the pub. She’s the sort of person who turns a good night into a great one.
As for the food, it was exactly what you hope for when you come to a traditional English pub. The fish and chips were golden, crisp, and perfectly cooked, with flaky fish inside and that satisfying crunch on the outside, served with proper chips that tasted like comfort on a plate. The pie and mash was equally outstanding: hearty, rich, and bursting with flavour, with a buttery pastry crust that sealed the deal. Both dishes felt homemade in the best possible way, cooked with care and love.
All in all, Ye Old Cross Keys is everything a pub should be: excellent food, a warm and authentic atmosphere, and above all, staff who make the experience unforgettable. If you’re lucky enough to have Bex behind the bar, you’re in for an exceptional time. We’ll definitely be back!

San Marzano Witney
70 High St, WitneyWe went for lunch on Saturday at this Italian restaurant. We didn’t have a booking, but since we arrived relatively early, they were able to accommodate the five of us (3 kids and 2 adults).
For the kids, we ordered plain pasta with cheese, a Margherita pizza, and spaghetti carbonara. The plain pasta was simple but tasty, and the Margherita pizza stood out for both its flavor and size, even though it was from the kids’ menu. We can tell they use quality ingredients, and the taste was excellent. The carbonara was prepared the authentic way, with egg yolk (not cream) and an Italian cured meat instead of bacon, which gave it a fantastic flavor.
Each dish was between £7.50 and £8.50, with the option of adding dessert for £9.95. One thing that could be improved would be to include a drink in the kids’ menu.
For the adults, we started with burrata, which was the only dish that could be improved – it came with just two tiny slices of bread and really should have been served with a drizzle of good extra virgin olive oil. As mains, we had penne al forno (highly recommended!) and penne arrabbiata, which really surprised me with its delicious, slightly spicy flavor that still allowed the other tastes to shine.
The only thing I missed was having more staff available, though Jack and Oni did an outstanding job. The two of them managed to serve the whole restaurant during peak time, and everything came to our table exactly as ordered thanks to the teamwork with the kitchen.
Overall, this is definitely a place to come back to: excellent ingredients, fair prices, and VERY dedicated staff.

133 Main Rd, Long Hanborough, WitneyThis was my first visit here, and I was pleasantly surprised by just how good this pub is. If I could give it 10 stars, I would! It’s a charming thatched pub with beautiful solid wood furniture inside, creating such a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.
We ordered the Spatchcock Spring Chicken and the Salt and Pepper Ribs as our main courses, and both were outstanding — perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and incredible value at just £18 each.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming, with a special mention to Ben, who was exceptionally attentive and helpful throughout our visit.

Shaan Restaurant
12 Corn St, WitneyVegetarian brown curry from different restaurants can all be quite similar. This one was superior - the vegetable pieces were sizeable and still retained bite, so not overcooked at all. The spices had been cleverly combined without the need for lots of chili but still with plenty flavour. \nI felt the waiting staff were a bit too attentive, but the place was fairly quiet at the time and they were probably itching for something to do.\nRecommended.

Unnamed Road, Yarnton, WitneyI've awarded this 5 stars because it probably deserves it, but the place keeps being shown in my list and I can't work out how to delete it.
It simply wasn't there!
I stopped at this lay by, yes. I was too early for the nearby caravan site where I had booked and this was handy for a short park up.
There were two chairs and a table at one end, so, obviously, when it's there, it is used, but not on the day I parked.

Staff were great and place was clean. Usual lounge style applied here and we absolutely rate the place. The staff were very helpful and we waited only about 20 mins for food. Great choice of gluten free so Mrs was happy. I had a big boy breakfast for £15, my wife had 16 year old had a normal breakfast. I had a fruit smoothy, daughter had a double chocolate thing that looked amazing and my wife had a hot drink and it all came to £55 but seriously... Both the ambience and amount of food set me up for the whole day. 1,500 calories in mine left room for beers later on ? well worth the visit. But then again any lounge is

Lunch was only marred by a couple complaining that the menu had changed and did not include what they had come in for. For clarity, this is stated on the website, as it's a seasonal menu. The full current menu is also posted by the front door, and there's plenty to choose from. But, this was all handled so well by the wait staff and manager, with patience and understanding. The Eagle Tavern
22 Corn St, WitneyHad lunch in this lovely, proper pub on a quiet Friday early afternoon. We both had the doorstop sandwiches which come with proper handcut, homemade chips. Both the haddock fish finger sandwich and the pastrami sandwich were fantastic, as was the side order of homemade onion rings. Couple the fantastic food with friendly staff, great service and brilliant tunes on the juke box - can't go wrong!
