“If you visit you will understand why this was Robert Burns' favourite howff! It is an atmospheric building full of a sense of Burns' time and there are even lines etched by him on a window pane. Anyone who is interested in poetry or the history of Scotland or good food will enjoy a visit: the cuisine, which makes heavy use of locally sourced ingredients, is outstanding.”

“By far, the best meal we've had in town! The taster menu was more than worth the money. Everything made fresh, with locally sourced produce! So much thought goes in to the dishes, with the flavours complimenting one another perfectly! The staff are second to none! You 100% get why they called it Home. You are made to feel like part of the family. Keep doing what you do guys!”

“Lovely meal. Service was not quick (same on my last visit) but we need in no great hurry. Can be a little noisy due to the wooden floors”

“Nice food in sensible portions. A bit of a wait for order to be served, which staff were up front about, but guess that was down to the sheer number of covers. Recommended.”

“Our lunch was very memorable. Amazing flavours and textures, artfully designed menu and a talented team executing the experience. Fine food and drink without the portentousness. A great surprise down an ally.”

“Visited The Usual Place today for a coffee. It is by far, the best coffee that I have had the pleasure of drinking whilst in Dumfries. To make matters even better, it was very well priced. I will definitely be back.”
