Glenfinnan Station Dining Car

We had lunch at the Glenfinnan Station Dining Car at the end of July. We booked a table about two weeks in advance by email, and when we arrived our reservation was ready for us. The dining car is quite small, and we noticed several people hoping to sit inside were turned away since all the tables were either taken or reserved.

My husband ordered the smoked salmon sandwich, which he really enjoyed. I chose the chicken sandwich, which was a bit disappointing—the meat seemed more like processed chicken rather than freshly cut, and it was on the dry side. Both sandwiches came with a simple side salad and dressing. We also shared a plate of their special fries, which were excellent. Overall, it was a nice meal and the perfect way to fuel up before our hike to the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

When we returned from the hike about two hours later, we stopped in again to pick up two slices of cake and some drinks to go. Unfortunately, the cakes were dry and not as enjoyable as we had hoped.

Still, the restaurant is worth a visit for the unique atmosphere and the experience of dining in the old railway car. The waitresses were also very friendly, which added to the charm.
