I studied at St Andrews for four years and have arrived at a conclusion: that the British Ministry of Culture should subsidize the establishment of an Aikmans-like pub in every UK county.This place is unimpeachable: there simply are no valid criticisms or objections one can level against this institution. Met up with my son for a bite to eat around 6pm. Had soup and a panini, my son had a burger. The staff were lovely and so was the food. Prices are so reasonable. My husband loves Cullen skink and as he has been ill and not able to go out, I asked the chef if I would be able to get some to carry out. He went out of his way to get a container for this as he did not have one on the premises. One happy husband as the Cullen skink was the best he'd ever tasted. Just dropped in for a mid afternoon pint and bite. Service perfect with bar staff offering tastes of unfamiliar cask ales. Substantial sandwich to accompany, all at very reasonable prices. Bit quiet being that time of day. Perfect escape from tourist/golf St Andrews. Likely to be back for music. A gem?.
