What a treat. Tried the seafood risotto. Was absolutely excellent. Coffee superb as usual. The wife wasn"t as hungry and had garlic bread with cheese. This was served with an excellent side salad. We shall be continuing to support Alex and his team next year. This is definetely thd best Cafe in Melksham.

This place does the best fish and chips. I came across it a few years ago and loved it. My daughter and I were in the Melksham area today and decided to grab an early supper there. My daughter wasn’t hungry as she’d already eaten, but I was starving. I ordered the cod and chips and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was so fresh, with crisp batter and the chips were the proper chip shop chips that you can’t seem to get any more. Needless to say my daughter ended up eating half of it! She loved it. Good service and great food. We’ll definitely be back again ?

The Barge Inn

Comfortable countryside pub, with a rustic homely feel. Positioned right beside the canal, it has ample space for groups, couples or individuals.

Gorgeous place, a nice vibe and separate dining from the bar area.

We only had drinks, but they were super accommodating and allowed us to sit in dining before dinner service, due to there being no room in the main bar.

They have a cosy snug just around the corner as you walk in, and they allow pets too.

Staff were busy, but friendly. Hospitality is a tough business, but they all seem to work as a team to help this lovely pub flow.

The smell of the fire was delightful and took me back to my childhood in the Emerald Isle. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Food menu looked delicious; a little pricey, but for a nice day out and the gorgeous views and ambient atmosphere, it's worth the cost.

We'll be back for sure.

He’s more than just a team member—he’s the smiling face that makes the whole visit feel special. Always cheerful, always kind, and always consistent. It’s rare to meet someone who brings that much positive energy to their job, but he’s been doing it for ages—and still going strong.

The pizza? Always top-tier. Whether I’m sticking with my usual or mixing it up, I know it’ll come out fresh, hot, and delicious. The care put into every order really shows, and you can tell this team works hard to keep the standards high. From the crisp base to the perfectly melted cheese—it’s exactly what I look forward to every single week.

Service is smooth, friendly, and fast. The store is always spotless, the staff are polite, and the whole experience is just easy and enjoyable. I’ve seen busy times too, but they handle it like pros—no stress, just great vibes all around.

Massive shout-out to Minjahul—he’s the heart of this place, and seeing him at the counter always lifts the mood. It’s no surprise I keep coming back.

There is so much choice it was have hard to choose but a return trip is definitely on the cards. Staff where very friendly amd helpful. Highly recommend and booking is strongly recommended. Popped in with my girlfriend on a whim before heading home and we were so pleasantly surprised. A lovely traditional, local that ticked all of the boxes for us.

We had a fish and chips, a cheese toastie and some drinks, and I honestly couldn't really fault it. Then when you factor in the value, it really doesn't get much better when it comes to relaxed pub grub.

As for the service - second to none. Unfortunately we didn't get the name of the lady of served us, but she was absolutely great. Really on it, personable, friendly and made us feel really welcome. I also noticed that she knew a couple of regulars' drinks which is always nice!

All in all, no complaints, was a nice change of pace from our local in Bath, and we'll definitely be back.

Lovely place. Food very good, plentyfull, tasty. A little formal at entrance reception for table bookings. Its a garden center and people want a relaxed time out. Bookings are ok but when a table is empty for best part of our stay then I cant see why we couldnt move to that table especially in a heat wave and in the shade. Apart from that enjoyed my day.

March 2026: We had a quick pint after a walk along the canal to the multiple locks near Devizes. The staff are very pleasant and they serve a great pint of 6X, so what more could we ask for. We recently held a wake here and from start to finish the staff made a difficult time stress free. The communication was excellent with regular phone calls and emails to make sure we were happy with the arrangements. The buffet was fantastic and value for money. Other venues hiked the price when we said it was for a funeral but The pilot kept to their pricing package. (And accommodated our needs) We highly recommend this venue. Good parking facilities, amazing, friendly staff, lovely food, great drink range and price and a very clean environment. Thank you to everyone that works here. Kind regards The Walker family.

The game was still in progress as we entered just in time to see the winner go in . The place went mental so the mood was ideal for a singsong , we managed to grab a round and a table. There were quite a few good singers, some renditions were obviously booze fuelled and not too easy on the ear , however , things settled to an easier pace and a good time was had by all . Our bar staff were great and also got on the mike . The prices were also very reasonable. When is the next one coming?

Wonderful late September Sunday lunch. Some of our party were late due to transport issues, the staff were really understanding about this and made sure that we could stay at our table. We particularly recommend the bresaola and walnut salad with blue cheese starter and the roast lamb for main. The lamb was cooked perfectly, not too much fat, and came with enough vegetables for at least three people, plus roast potatoes. I really enjoyed the homemade pear sorbet, which came with an additional piece of honeycomb. Service was friendly and welcoming, we are looking forward to going back when possible.
