There was a time, a few years ago, when the Standard stopped being our first choice for a beer or bite, but now it’s a contender every time. The food is great (fish pie is superb!) but the service is just properly friendly again. Our server, on a busy Boxing Day lunchtime, couldn’t have been calmer or more helpful. Why only 4 stars? Sometimes it can be a little bit chilly. But thanks, we had a great time!
Great Sunday roast, fantastic old building, nooks and crannies, huge open fire. Uncomfortable chairs but hey ho comfortable chairs would not fit the ambience of the place. A must visit pub, I loved it. Went together with family and had no complaints at all.

Brilliant spot for lunch and a drink - the place just oozes charm and history. If only the walls could talk! The food servings were generous and delicious and came out super fast and fresh. It was very busy so suspect bookings for weekends would be needed - we did. Well worth a visit.
