Rifle Volunteer
St Ann's Chapel, GunnislakeSunday Menu - Roast beef and all the trimmings….beef, carrot and swede mash, Yorkshire pudding on the plate, brought out and then had to wait for the vegetables and potatoes to be brought to the table. By the time this was all brought out, the meat etc was cold. Tasty though. Now I love a roast potato…. And boy, was I disappointed.! They were like bullets. Really hard outer layer, couldn’t even get a knife though them. It was a if they had been reheated several times over and they were just not edible. Really disappointed as I’ve had 2 previous meals at the Rifle before and was lovely, hence why we booked for Mother’s Day.
Pudding,.. I chose the toffee Sundae…. Pieces of toffee sponge in ice cream and cream and a toffee sauce.. really yummy ice cream but the sponge was soo dry!! It was like eating cardboard! You could tell they were the edges of the sponge cut off for their sticky toffee dessert, and used for this… absolutely fine to use all food up, but not when the sponge was like a pumice stone! Disappointed… as I was really looking forward to this meal.

The Rising Sun
Calstock Rd, GunnislakeIt’s a very interesting little, cosy pub that must date back a few hundred years; and although I’ve not tried the food it always seems to be busy serving so that’s a good sign.
