The New Inn

We visited several times while staying in Portholland, and each visit to The New Inn was an absolute pleasure. We’re usually a bit wary of country pubs in small villages, as they can sometimes feel unwelcoming to outsiders; but that couldn’t be further from the case here. From the moment we arrived, the landlord and landlady made us feel genuinely welcome. Their friendliness really stood out, and if we lived locally, this would definitely be our regular spot. The food was just as impressive as the hospitality. Classic home-cooked pub grub done right…fresh, full of flavour, and generously portioned. The menu had a great variety without being overwhelming, and everything was very reasonably priced. Every meal we had was delicious. It’s also great to see how dog-friendly the pub is, both inside and out. We only brought our dog along one evening (he does enjoy being the centre of attention!), but it’s a big plus for dog owners. We’ll absolutely be returning next time we’re in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The New Inn to anyone looking for a warm welcome, great food, and a proper country pub experience.
