Restaurants in Beaminster
White Lion Inn
Back Ln, Broadwindsor, BeaminsterA clean pub with friendly personnel, great beer (we love Palmer's!) and delicious food. We were visiting the area and just had one meal here but it seemed to be well-supported by the local community, many of whom were welcomed by name or were well-known to the bar staff. A terrific resource in this rural area.

The Admiral Hood
Mosterton, BeaminsterHad been here before - but a couple of years back. Booked in advance (definitely recommend you do this). Table was ready, service was excellent - and I mean really excellent- with plenty of staff who clearly know how to treat their customers.
Carvery was ample and desserts were very reasonably priced.
Nothing was too much trouble ( we had a disabled person & a dog in our party and both were welcomed).
Definitely recommended - and look forward to returning soon.

The New Inn
Stoke Abbott, BeaminsterI visited on the evening of 20 August 2025 and met the new owner and her two lovely front of house staff. A very warm welcome from walking in the door. The atmosphere was delightful, all the home comforts of a country pub but with a slight french bistro twist.
Local ales did not disappoint and the wine list was good.
The food was exceptional. We had the Deviled Seafood Gratin and Smoked Haddock Rarebit to start. Both great. The gratin was light, flavousome and packed with seafood.
The rarebit was amazing. Possibly the best piece of smoked haddock I have eaten as far as I can recall.
To follow was an authentic Provencial Fish Stew and the Confit Duck.
The fish stew was loaded with various fish cuts, king prawn and two types of mussels. The bisque sauce was lightly spiced and well balanced. Served with char grilled sour dough which added a unique smokiness from the char acrylamide.
Eating the confit of duck I could have closed my eyes and been in well to-do restaurant in france. The duck was cooked perfectly and fell off the bone. Better than you would find in France, it was nestled on a bed of freshly steamed beans and tenderstem broccoli (not from a tin). A few new potatoes and a lovely fruit compot/sauce on the side made this a wonderful meal.
Very much recomend booking in advance.

The Red Lion
14 The Square, BeaminsterWe stayed at an Airbnb accommodation above the antique shop on the square at Beaminster, where there were several eateries, and we chose The Red Lion, because of its walled garden, and we were not disappointed. We both chose a local beer recommend by the Landlord, who was an excellent host. I choose the rump steak, and my wife selected the honey salmon, both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. There was an onsite art gallery in the skittle alley, which we had a look round and purchased a piece. Will give the place a thumbs up, and well worth popping into!

Tangerine Cafe
2 North St, BeaminsterGreat tasty late afternoon breakfast and toasted scones. Friendly service and ambience. The cafe is a family run business and is located off the main square in Beauminster so could easily be missed. It was a Monday and most of the cafes were closed and the few that were open had only cold food so it was great to find somewhere serving warm food. Look for the orange sign on the square or outside the cafe. The cafe has artwork and crafts on display as well as books and is light and bright.

3 Hogshill St, BeaminsterWhat a lovely cafe! We came in for a coffee and Dorset Apple Cake and ended up staying for lunch. Great atmosphere, wonderful service and the food is amazing!! Brassica Restaurant
4 The Square, BeaminsterTurned up after one of the quiet local pubs said they couldn’t fit us in. They sat us outside and honestly couldn’t fault any of the experience or food standards. Will return as soon as we can!
Make sure to book though, we got lucky…

The Beaminster Brasserie
3 Prout Hill, BeaminsterGreat central spot for travels to many other attractions in the area. Generous room, very clean. All interactions with staff members very positive & helpful. We had dinner on the Tuesday evening was an outstanding feature of our stay, best food we'd had in ages, the arancini was the best I've had anywhere, Lamb and sea bass cooked to perfection. The restaurant doesn't open for food in the evenings on Wednesday but we enjoyed the Mexican van that offered food on site, very fresh tasting, something different. Would definitely recommend to others in this charming part of the country.

Kingfisher Takeaway
3 North St, BeaminsterWent to this fish and chips shop while on a little holiday in Dorset during a long weekend. The fish and chips were so good, not greasy at all and so delicious. The owners were very funny and polite. I'd recommend this fish and chips shop to anybody stopping in Beaminster.

Amei ( Peking and Malaysian Take-away)
5 Prout Hill, BeaminsterI go here often for my chinese. Best chinese i have ever had and i love my chinese and have been to countless places. Great food. Great service and good prices. Was a bit gutted that it is minimum £20 on card as my order is normally about £19 but that being said i can see why they do it as they get charged per transaction and there is a free cash machine in the co op up the road so its easy to phone the order and get cash on the way.
