The Old Badger Inn

The car park is small and there are no disabled bays, though the walk to the pub is not any kind of distance, it would be a problem if you need extra width to get out the vehicle. Coming through the entrance, which had one of the double doors locked which was a bit of a problem with my disability, your greeted by a cosy looking pub that is a bit gloomy but your eyes soon adjust. The room is in a horseshoe shape with the bar opposite the door and seating extended to the left and right with spurs coming off each side. The staff were very friendly and cheerful with a good standard of banter. We were given the right amount of time to settle before someone came and took our drinks order. These were brought to us quickly and we then ordered mains. Again, there was no long wait. I had the 3 meat Sunday roast with pigs in blankets as a side. Not the cheapest at £23. When it arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised. The portion was huge, much better than any pub I think I have ever been to. Lots of green veg, carrots, parsnips and 3 roasties. I was expecting 2 or 3 pigs and was astonished to get 6!!. The pigs were divine as was the veggies. The slow cooked belly pork was melt in your mouth tender, but no crackling. The chicken was slightly overdone so, whilst it was moist, it was a bit tough. The beef was the let down, a bit tough and chewy, not the way I like my meat, but each to their own. The stuffing again was exquisite. One little moan, needed a bit more gravy or your own gravy boat, maybe. Onto the pudding. Brownie sundae. Too much cream, not enough ice cream and the brownie was dry, almost as if it was leftover brownie from previous days, not saying it was, but that's what it tasted like. Saying that, I did like it, but it could have been better. Once again in summary, the staff were brilliant, the food was excellent but needed, in my humble opinion, a tweak or two and not the cheapest but more than worth it. The family all loved there food as well. We will definitely be going again and again and again......you get it. Thank you Badger.
