Living in one of the best places in the U.K. for freshly caught and landed fish and therefore by default fish and chips I’m absolutely gob smacked to find the equal, or dare I say better within a 5 min stroll of Platform 13 at Waterloo Station and a gentle snooze back to Salisbury and beyond, following the trauma of shopping/theatre/Rugby/making a living. This is a really good place. There may be better fish and chips in London—if so, they’re probably a lot more expensive—but I haven’t found them. primarily because the food is so fresh. Go for a platter and ignore the temptation to have a sandwich. The service, which can seem merely efficient, is actually quite warm and welcoming, once you offer a thank you or a how’s it going. I last came to Fishcotheque in 2015. It was great then and it is even better now. The fish is first class and very fresh. The service is friendly and impressively quick and the restaurant is clean and very close to Waterloo if you want to sit down with your family or eat alone.
