Nice looking pub (we sat in the first floor), nice friendly bar staff. Food was just SO average. I don’t get the mentality of why you serve food like this. It’s like you’re in a race to the bottom. It wasn’t like what we had was terrible, it just could be so much better. I had the pie and mash - it came with no carrots (the menu said it would) and was served with a leaf salad - a handful of the baby leaf type salad that you get in all supermarkets. The Red Lion, like many other Sam Smith’s pubs, wears its history on its sleeve. There’s a beautiful time warp element here which I love. Atmospheric, plenty of dark wood, unique beers….it even smells old…..pub gold.
