I have been going to the Anchor and Hope for years and IMHO I have never had a bad meal. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the food is always top notch. On this occasion I tried the bisque followed by the steamed halibut with spinach. As I was feeling a bit indulgent I finished with a pear and rhubarb tart with clotted cream. We chanced it for a lunch here with our little baby - the anchor and hope made us feel like real adults again! We had grouse lasagna and a big pork chop, simple greens and good bread and butter with a glass of wine. You could tell the food was made with love - delicious, saucy, comforting on a cool autumn day, no pretensions but still elevated and elegant. Wonderful staff. Great food. Especially the desserts we tried 5 and they were all excellent. Would love to go back to try more mains.Very welcoming and knowledgeable waiter put us at ease all evening. Not sure his name sorry.
