69 High St, Ashwell, BaldockUnfortunately our first visit to the rose and crown since Sam and Sian took over, it won’t be the last though. We booked as a last minute thing on a Friday evening. The pub was bustling and lively with plenty of regulars in the bar area. We went through to the restaurant to eat (me, wife and 11 year old son) Wife and son had the sirloin steak and I had the buttermilk chicken burger. The food took a reassuring time to come out (not so quick like some chain pubs where you know it’s basically been microwaved) the food when it arrived was delicious. The staff were pleasant, attentive and not overbearing like some can be. We will be back, in fact we have booked for Sunday lunch so won’t be long.

Rhubarb & Mustard
31 High St, Ashwell, BaldockThis was my first visit to this cafe. In addition to the cafe, there are a few nick nacks for sale. The cafe is compact with about 20covers. My group had six cyclists and though we were welcomed and accommodated, the funiture had to be arranged.I had coffee and cake and both were very good. My colleagues were also happy. The prices were reasonable. I'm looking forward to my next visit. The only disappointment was there was no rhubarb ? with mustard iceing ?.Jan 2023 my original review still stands.
