Dolphin
105 High St, Melbourn, RoystonThe newly refurbished Dolphin is looking fantastic. What was once a dingy old pub has been transformed into a modern, light, and airy space. There’s also a lovely outdoor seating area at the back, which is a great addition.
The menu offers plenty of choice, and the food is really good — I’d highly recommend the pie.
I’ve visited several times for lunch now, but unfortunately the service has consistently let it down. Despite booking a table, there’s never anyone available to greet you, which makes arriving feel a bit awkward as you’re left to figure out where to sit.
Service is also extremely slow, so you need to come prepared to wait. On my last visit, no one brought a menu even after half an hour, and I eventually had to go and ask. It wasn’t busy, but I was told there was only one staff member on duty, and she was rarely visible in the restaurant area.
Getting the bill took a long time as well. I was initially given the wrong one, and again struggled to find anyone to resolve it.
Overall, it’s a great pub with excellent food and very friendly staff, but it really needs more waiting staff. Improving the service would make a huge difference to the overall experience.

Old Station Hse MELDRETH STATION, RoystonTakeaway only and doesn’t deliver hence only 4 stars for service but the food was excellent. Staying in local campsite and this was closest Indian so gave it a go so glad we did!

Haynes American BBQ
Coach house hotel, Melbourn, RoystonWe tried this restaurant for the first time and were very impressed. It looks like it has been refurbished and renamed “Flint Cross bar and grill”. The food was delicious- I had a Cheesy Pig burger, which was amazing and my husband was very happy with his half a BBQ chicken. The kids meals were tasty and very substantial too and included a drink in the price. Our kids love playing outside in the play area which is full of lots of fun retro play equipment, plastic vehicles and football goals.
