Today, having gone to Simmons whilst visiting family, I had the pleasure of being served by James. He captured me by his warm, friendly, attentive welcome. Only wanting one crusty roll, he enticed me to buy more with his exceptional up selling skills whereby I was actually benefiting also. The Cole Green Lane Simmons is quite good, gets a little busy at lunch, but the staff are quick and efficient and for the most part friendly. The Hunters Chicken Focaccia is excellent.
Simmons isn't a bland national chain... or an overly expensive 'cute' cafe. It occupies a middle ground of cakes, teas and backed goods that are affordable, without the blandness that comes from national chains. It has a lovely location on HowardsGate. Despite the dry weather the gardens still look lovely. There is some outdoor seating at Simmons, with little traffic and a view over the gardens.
