Fantastic food and setting, we ventured out to the chequers on a cold rainy Thursday for one of their pie nights ,walking in we found a lovely open fire which really made up for the terrible weather outside. We perched at the bar and ordered some drinks prior to sitting down, conversation made with a gentleman called Chris who was on his own in the bar area, which was nice how friendly everyone is here. This is a really pretty village pub set in a gorgeous village, full of locals & timber beams. We were shown to a glorious room-huge bed & beautifully decorated, then went downstairs for drinks at the bar, where the room was full of warmth & laughter. The meal though, was the shining star at the Chequers. He had a Scotch egg for starters & declared it to be a work of art! Just had a delicious Roast dinner at The Chequers Smarden , we both had the Beef and it melted in your mouth , the side dishes of red cabbage , creamed swede and cauliflower cheese were also great . I followed with the Sticky Toffee Pudding and salted caramel ice cream , absolutely delicious ?. Thank you
